Oh my word! No wonder my one is like it is. Its night time here, so can't get anything now. Can I use newspaper temporary and will it not set the paper on fire? And can we maybe just use a regular towel just till the morning. No paper towels or anything ? Thank you so much for your help. So I must get rid of both lights? And put a normal white light 40 watt for basking and get a fluorescent one of the site? The tank is, length is 60 cm. And height is 43 cm. The store said they about 8 or so weeks. And length of the good one is 19 cm, and the sick one is 17 cm. Can I use a normal 60watt household light for basking? And can I leave that on whole day as I wanna take out the red light?

yes newpaper is fine it wont set on fire. 40w would probally be to low but you can always increase it to 50w or something like for the size of your viv but i cant be sure i know some people do use house lights but i dont know the facts on that.

a repti-sun 10.0 or arcardia 12 fluorescent tube would be good.

the basking light and tube should be on for about 12-13 hours.

We are very happy that you found our forum and will do our best to help you get everything perfect for them.

So, the length of 60 centimeters is 23 1/2" and the height of 43 centimeters is 17" so that is pretty small. What is the width? I would stick to a 40 watt household bulb, don't want them to overheat which can cause heat stroke and dehydration. Best to have it just a little too low than too high.

A towel or newspapers is fine as well as paper towels being ok too.

If they are 8 wks old, they are a little small for their age at 7 1/2 and 6 1/2 inches. They need lots of protein right now to help them catch up. And, will need all the feeders they will eat 2 to 3 times a day in 10 to 15 min each time.

Please turn off the coil UVB as they would be better off without any UVB rather than continuing to use that one. Even a wk is ok for them to be without any UVB until you get the other recommended one.

Are you going to get the baby food to help the sickly one? That would really make a difference.

I appreciate all the help. So thanks in advance.

The width is 35 cm. So which light do I take out and replace with 40 watt? The red one? And is there no other light I can use for basking cause the tube one is very expensive and bank account is low after buying everything for them.

We going to use normal towels for tonight, until I can buy a repti carpet tomorrow. Which I'll feel better about.

Well the one which isn't sick eats a lot and isn't sick at all and has already slowly start to shed, so I thought she was fine. But the sickly one can still eat, it still chases the crickets but not hectically, some days it eats a lot of crickets, so days. Not much at all. What proteins do we feed them? Coz it seems like the eating baby beardie pellets today!

yes take out the red one and move it so that it faces down to the floor. it is quite expensive. i dont know what is sold in south africa but i suggest you go to the shop and have alook youll need something like this.

http://www.superpetsdirect.com/products/Arcadia-Dry-Vivarium-IP64-Controllers.html
http://www.superpetsdirect.com/products/Arcadia-D3%2b-Reptile-Tube-12%-UVB-Light.html or http://www.superpetsdirect.com/products/Exo-Terra-Repti-Glo-10.0-UVB-Tubes-Reptile-Light.html

repti carpet is expensive try tiles if you have some laying around or lino.

I put in the dimensions to figure out the size of your tank and it's equal to a 25 gallon. So, for right now, I would use a 40 watt household light bulb. Did you take the red bulb out and replace it with the household bulb? If so, do you notice any difference in how they are acting?

The UVB is the coil bulb that you're using now. That's the one that needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, you'll need to get the tube bulb and holder, would stay away from the Repti-GLO, would get either the Arcadia 12% http://www.superpetsdirect.com/products/Arcadia-D3%252b-Reptile-Tube-12%25-UVB-Light.html I really would recommend that you turn the coil UVB off for at least a few days to see if you notice a difference in the sickly one. Even thought he eats on & off, the behavior that you mentioned in your first few posts are very concerning. The other baby may be acting ok right now, but the coil bulbs are very dangerous as they don't put out the right amount of UVB and actually produce UVC's which are very serious.

Minipumpkin is right, the reptile carpeting is expensive. NON-adhesive shelf liner is inexpensive, comes in lots of colors and patterns and is easy to clean.

How many crickets are each of them eating a day? Are you keeping the babies well hydrated? Did you get a chance to look over the list of greens on this site? http://www.beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com/Nutrition.html

rebelliousk's new tank

Thats great looks really good, looks a little like our first one.
Just keep checking the temps as different size viv's need bulbs with more watts to keept hem warm...
Unfortunatly it is really expensive when first setting everything up.
We spent alot on our first tank and now we have upgraded to a bigger when we have spent even more money but once its going then its not to bad.... when you have some spare money, just buy a spare basking bulb and uvb just in case, thats what we do as we have got up in the morning to find the basking spot light blown and needing to be replaced, its handier if you already have one at home spare...
How long are the lights on for each day?
we got timers so they come on and go off at set times

Well the first one we spent about $215 and then I took the whole set up back to the same store and they changed it all and paid a lil extra for the bigger viv and other globes. And the basking light is more powerful than the other one and so is the uvb light. I just cudnt afford a better temp gauge as yet. But that is a good idea. And will do it once pay day comes again. I only got it all bout 4 hours ago. And the reptile guy said leave both on for 12 hours, or should I keep one on throughout the nite?

Will buy timers once have more money. :)

Thanks for all ur help!

We have the basking light on from 7 am to just after 7 in the evening and the UVB comes on about 15 mins before the basking light then goes off just after the basking light.
We have a heat mat in ours that comes on only at night just before the basking light goes off to warm up the tank and stays on during the night until the basking light comes back on, this is next to where the dragons sleep and keeps them warm during the night... we also put a blanket over the viv at night to keep the heat in as over here in England it gets very cold.... so thats up to you depending on how cold it gets... its also handy as our viv is in our front room so it keeps the noise and our light out of the viv aswell.... we have kept the timings the same since we got the dragons and now they know when its about time to go to sleep and they get in there bed just before the UVB buld goes out..

Oh okay, well the reptile guy said I must leave the basking light and uvb light on through out the day. Or should I put uvb on from 7 to 7 and basking at nite, heating pad I always leave on. I'll keep the blanket idea on pause for now and also putting a background on the back of the cage, does it help or is just for decoration? Lol.

you really want them to be on during the day together and not 1 at night and 1 in the day, the dragon will need to warm up in the morning before they eat this will help them be more active and catch their food. then they can return to the basking spot and digest their food. If the heating pad is on all day thats ok as long as the temps stay at the right levels.
If both lights are on during the day this will allow the dragons to freely choose what they want to do... e.g my dragon has sat under the basking light most of the day and has now moved closer to the UVB light. If both lights go out at night then the dragons will be able to go to sleep happily :)

Have your basking and uv light on during the day. About 12 hours a day. Don't have any lights on at night because it does bother them when they are sleeping. Mine will climb under the paper towels if the room is to bright after the lights go out. They need their rest at night. Temps can be lower at night. My tanks get down to the upper 60s low 70s at night. If your tank gets to low you can use a heat mat like the one on the prev. posts or get a ceramic heat emitter.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
