help please, i have a 10 inch believe to be female dragon. she is just laying there and will not eat. she has been eating crickets up until yesterday. she does not open her left eye except briefly. i have a 4ft long by 21inch wide by 24in high enclosure. the basking point is at 107 and the cool side is 82. i use a digital thermometer with probe. i recently switched to a 100 watt mega-ray set at 15 inches from the basking spot with a 45 watt hologen spot for extra heat. and a che at night to keep it at 70. she did eat some veg and small meal worms that were in her vegetable dish. she has been doing this since i got her and she pooped today. she seems very lathargic and onlt eat 2 crickets that happened to walk in front of her in the feeding cage. i turned all the bulbs off for now. i have an appointment with the vet tomorrow after work but am worried as all get out that she wont make it that long. oops forgot she gets a 7 min bath every other night that she absolutly hates. please give me some advice!!!
also i have never seen her drink water either in the tub or the bowl i have in her house. but the bowl seems to go down through out the day.

hello! i am gonna start w/ the water in the bowl, evaporation. are those greens what you feed her or for decoration? they definately look too big. Try to give a long warm bath for about 15-20 mins to assure hydration. when was the last poop and what waqs it like?

i also just read about the meal worms, stay away from them especially @ this young and small they have too hard of an exo skeliton. if this is impaction you may want to run to a store and pick up some gerbers baby squash and an infant syringe and try mixing in a drop or 2 of veg oil as a laxitive.

no the vine thing in the right corner is decoraction. which was removed a couple of days ago. i chop the greens up in a small food processor. as far as the meal worms i dont think it is impactation because she poops every day including today. it gets dried up by the time i get home from work. but it is usually a dark tint of green. and white urate. we were just down with her again and tried to give her some water with a suringe but would not drink. we put her on the pool table and she seemed to perk up a bit. although she is still closing her left eye. i think it is the spot light so i changed it out for a regular house bulb, but now i only get 100 degrees at the basking spot. i will let it sit a bit and raise it if i need to. i put the megaray in a different fixture so it points straight down. will up date in about an hour. i give baths evry other day but can do it again tonight if needed. do they just absorb the water i never see her drink? thank you everyone!!!!

There have been some issues with the mega-rays recently - I think a bad batch slipped through but i have seen a few people mention them - perhaps remove it for a few days and just keep the spot, just to see if that helps with her eyes. Also, perhaps email reptileuv if that is the problem - they are most helpful when people report issues with bulbs!

I hope she is feeling better soon!

miss t! can you elaborate on issues w/ the mega ray i have a 160 w about 1 month old and this is the 1st i am hearing of this. Is the company doing anything as far as a recall?

Do a search at the top and quite a few posts come up. Someone mentioned it being something to do with bad glass. Either way, I think its something worth looking into if your beardie is suffering from any of the common uv related issues - lethargy, closing eyes, lack of appetite etc. Im not entirely sure what is being done about it but a lot of people seem to be contacting bob regarding the issues they are experiencing. So far, I have only found posts relating to the 100w so hopefully it will be confined to that.

thank you i will not turn it on tomorrow and will contact Bob to inform him of what is going on. i thought that it might be to bright so i have moved the megaray up to 17 inches from basking point and took out the spot and put in some 52 watt house hold bulbs on each end of the enclousure and raised the basking spot to get the correct temp i am waiting for it to stablize.. my wife and daughter have been holding her and she seems to be coming back to her self a bit. she is moving more but still closing her left eye.not quite as actice as the day before yesterday but deffinatly more than a couple hours ago. i know changing things could stress her but i think that the change is a good thing. the lights i had were to bright for me to look at. could it be she was just lonley? thanks to all. i have an appointment with a vet tomorrow afternoon to check her out. thanks again, john and sydney.

The guys at reptileuv are having to send me another bulb as they admit there is a bad batch out there. if your baby is still having these issues I would contact them ... they gave me no issues with replacing the bulb.

Hi:

How long have you had your beardie?

There is a questionaire at http://www.blackninjakitty.com You can copy and paste the questions to an email or to a post on this site. By answering the questions, people may be able to help you out even more.

In addition to the wonderful site, I like to encourage people to join our dragon board.

You can go to http://www.yahoogroups.com
Type: pogona

You will see the dragon groups come up. Our group has a baby beardie looking at the computer screen.

The name of the group is: [email protected]

I looked at your viv. I wonder if the lamps are too close to your beardie. They can overdose on UVB, just as they can become ill friom not enough. There is no place for your dragon to go, to get adequately out of the heat. Try bringing your cool side down a bit, to around 70/75. Give the dragon a shady cool place to hide away from the heat lamps. Some dragons actually prefer it a little cooler. Mine actually like it around 90/95. They wont come out if I keep it higher. See if bringing the hot temps down to around 90-95 helps with activity level. Whether she likes it or not, a bath should occur every day for 15-20 minutes, until the vet can diagnose any problem. When she poops, look and see if the urates (the white stuff/pee) is hard or soft. If it is hard, she is dehydrated and needs water. Get a spray bottle and mist her for 10 minutes, 1-2 times a day. The spray simulates a natural rainfall. This is normally how they drink. They drink the rain as it falls, or as it collects on leaves, etc. They don't actually 'see' water, because it does not move. This is why the spray is so important. When I bathe mine in the tub, I use the shower simutaneously to simulate the rain. It is nice to see them enjoying the mist from the shower. They will rise up into it by raising their heads and shoulders. They then close their eyes and just sit there until they decide they are ready to come out. Sometimes, Miss Sydney will swim in the tub, even putting her head under the water. Make sure your feeders have access to water constantly (I use sponges. I keep them wet). She will get some water thru the feeders. Consider changing over to juicier feeders, such as: horn worms, butterworms. Dubia Roaches are more nutritious and cleaner than the crickets are. I get my feeders from http://www.mulberryfarms.com Stay away from those lobster roaches, though. LOL They are escape artists, real Houdini's. If you can, email me a photo of the rear underside of your dragon's back legs. I will be able to tell you if it is a boy or a girl.

Take care. Emerald

SYDNEY UPDATE. i took sydney to the vet last night and was told that she has mild to moderate eye burn. i have talked to reptile uv and am getting a replacement bulb. the fecal shows coccidia and pin worms, got medication to treat this and on top of that she is starting a respatory infection. have med for this also. and she is shedding too! i will recieve my new bulb tuesday which will be raised to 20 inches per the vet request and the bark hide has been removed. she is still eating and going potty and is in otherwise very good condition acording to the vet. she also told me to lower the temps a little down to no more than 100 on the hot side and 85 on the cool and 75 at night. i will update when she getts better. thanks to all who have replied.

oops forgot, the vet says she is a girl dragon!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
