Ok, I read about the chalky urate, that does mean that he/she is dehydrated so make sure you bathe at least every 4 days or so and it should be at least a 15 min bath each time. Make sure to put a cloth down in the bottom of the sink or container to keep him from sliding around and to help him feel more secure.

You mentioned that you are using Rep-Cal calcium and Herptivite, that's great. Using the calcium 5 days a wk and the vitamins the other 2 days a wk is exactly right, but make sure that you only dust the crickets ONE feeding a day.

So, you are using a digital thermometer that has a long wire & probe end then? If so, make sure that the probe end is actually touching (resting on) the basking site, wait about 45 min for the temp to stop rising and give us another reading. Then lay the probe end way over on the bottom of the cool side, wait the appropriate amt of time and let us know that reading. Do you have a 100 watt household light bulb that you could use in place of the 75 watt if the next reading are still too low? Another thought is to use a lower wattage household bulb on the cool side too to help raise the temp close to 80 there. You should have a basking temp of about 100 or a little higher but not over 110.

You used the saline solution then? If so, did you notice an improvement of the eyes opening shortly after? It would be a good idea to use that even twice a day for the next week, won't do any harm at all.

Did I answer all your questions? How is he/she doing now? I'm SO excited. :p

Wow, just saw the pictures, look at those beautiful eyes. :love5: Big change in growth too. I do think the problem was a combination of sand particles in the eyes and the over exposure of the ultra violet rays, but that is all taken care of now, good job.

I have been dusting crickets only one feeding per day!!! umm not sure about the whole probe thing . . .? Maybe its not a probe . . the thing i have is called an inside/outside temp and humidity reader . . it is digital and if i place the white thing that is about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide in any area of the tank it shows me what the reading is on another device which also tells me what the temps are outside the tank plus it has a memory???? Um i don't see a metal anything the instructions told me to put it outside to measure outside temps . . but obviously I am using it differently . . it looked to be the best so I thought . . I also have not been placing the white thingy on top of the basking spot but next to it, so i will try again and let you know how it goes!!! and give the temps again!!!! Maybe I will take photo of thermometer i use???

I did not see any improvement in using the saline . . but overall through out the day she has been doing better!!!! I will continue to use it as you said it can't hurt!!!!!!

Spikette has grown quite well in the last three months which I attribute to great meals and good lighting thanks to this site!!!!! :blob5: :blob8: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Ok good, I'm glad you have only been dusting with the supplements one feeding a day, some others thought that every feeding needing to be dusted, so I was just making sure.

Here's a picture of a probe thermometer, does yours look anything like this?

If you want to post a picture of yours, that would be helpful.

I'm sorry, but I'm still not sure how to use it. Might be a good idea to go to Walmart and see if you can find the AcuRite brand like the one in the pic I posted. It only cost $12.00 and it gives both the basking and cool side temps at the same time and also has a humidity readout, very well worth the $. Quite a few members here use it. It would be in the area of the store where the plastic thermometers are sold. Since he has done so much better in one day, I would feel better if you could double check the thermometers with a probe thermometer and I think you would too.

Hello,

Yeah that is an interesting thermometer. I haven't seen one of those, either. It looks like it might be ok, but maybe you should get a probe anyway, just to make sure that the temps are right on where they need to be.
How is he doing today, did he eat a good amount for you?
It sounds like you are getting a good grip on everything now, too. Great job! :D

Hi everyone!!!!!

Spikette is doing fantastic today. . woke up today when the lights turned on . . and has been basking in the Sun and has been showing me those beautiful eyes I love :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: !!!!!

Also besides her salad that she ate yesturday, she also ate about ten crickets later in the afternoon before bed well at least two hours before bed so she can diggest!!!

We will see how it goes . . . . today . . . !!!!!!

Just one last question that i didn't get answered yet when should I put the UV Light back on?????
Thanks a bunch you guys you're the best group of people I have ever met (online :love5: )!!!!!!

Thanks to each person that has posted on this thread, each one of you have helped so much and Spikette is very appreciative and says thank you too!!!!!!!!!!

The first day I saw Spike not moving at all or opening his eyes I thought he was going to die and I cried because I didn't know how to help him but then I remembered that I had found a great site called BeardedDragon.org and I thought someone there might be able to help me . . . and I did I Found Lots of caring individuals that are so dedicated to helping other New Beardie Slaves become more knowledgable and fix just about any problem . . . I found great advice and Spike is doing 95% better because of it and also found out that He is not a He but a She I think? Anyway sorry to blab but I really wanted to say thanks for all the time and energy that everyone has put into this as I know time is precious to everyone . . so THANK YOU
you all are Rock Stars in my eyes :headbang:

Sincerely,

Heather

That's great that Spikette (love the name) is having another great day. :p How many crickets does she eat in a day? Did you retake the basking & cool side temps, what are they now? I took another look at your tank and noticed that the cool side looks a little dark. If the temps are still a little under 100 basking and about 74 cool side, you could put either a 25 or 40 watt household light bulb on the cool side in a clamp lamp and see what the temps are then. That will also help brighten up the cool side a little, the brighter, the better. Are you thinking about getting a probe thermometer to double check the temps?

Regarding the Repti-Sun fluorescent, it hasn't even been off a wk now so I would suggest leaving it off at least until Wed. Not having one on for a wk or even two won't cause any problems. You don't want to irritate her eyes again, that's for sure.

We are all SO happy that you found us, we love seeing very positive effects and Spikette is proof that a few changes can make a BIG difference. Thanks so much for following our advice to a "T". It sure is a good thing that you didn't "chalk it up" to brumation as that was definitely not the case because of the way she reacted so quickly when the lights were changed around.
Yes, we're all beardie slaves but we wouldn't have it any other way, they are all our babies. :love5:

Gee Heather, I've never been called a Rock Star before.

Keep us updated, we know you will.

Hey there,

she usually eats about 25 crickets in the am and about the same in the pm, plus the occasional worms!!! Okay I also retook the temps and they are great!!!!! 107 F on the warm said and about 76 on the cool side (when i used to have the UV light on it used to warm up the cool side a bit more plus it used to light up the whole tank nicely!!!!!) I agree the cool side is a little dark . . um not sure exactly what to do about that I will move the tank a little closer to the window iuntil I can turn the UV rays back on!!! . . i am working on finding that acurite with probe, so i can have the exact temps just to be on the safe side!!!!
I will post any new news if any!!!!!!!

Thanks again!!!!!! :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
