okay lets try this again!!!! I have to make this short as I have had to write this three seperate times.
I have a digital with probe that reads humidity too!!!
I have him/her in washed/sifted play sand, but I have decided to take it out!
I am going to the store to get the saline to see if that helps?
i want to get a 55 gallon tank or a 75 gallon depending on price!
His poo was very normal just alot and the urate was very normal too from what you described. Umm urate was hard like chalk . . usually is . . bad or good???
He ate three days ago now and what he had was less than usual, about thity crickets and a salad, with collard greens, mustard greens, kale, squash - had about half of the salad usually eats it all . . also ate less crickets . . what should i try to do for food for him tomorrow?? Baby food? greens, leave him alone? Should I leave him alone or try to get him to wake up could it be possible brumation?
okay think last question was about suppliments I give calcium repcal 5 times a week and repcal herptivite twice a week . . umm think i answered everything?

Good to hear back from you. Sorry about the posting issues. :dontknow:

Diane had to retire for the evening, but she got in touch with me before she did so, and said she would check back in with you tomorrow, and reply to your answers to her questions.

A couple of things you might want to add information-wise for her, in the meantime, are your current daytime temps: basking, ambient, and cool side. Also, just in case, the humidity percentage might be helpful also.

Only other thing I can think to mention for now, something that you can do ASAP... is about the urates. If they are hard/chalky, dragon is most likely dehydrated. Please see Diane's post for bathing details: how to, how long, and how often. :D

Hang in there,
Em

Hello,

Great job guys! :D
How is your dragon doing this evening?
No right now, even if he was trying to go into brumation, he should not be allowed to.
So, the urates were hard & chalky? That means he is very dry & dehydrated. So you will need to begin intensive rehydration for him. You can use water mixed with pedialyte daily along with baths to help him get more hydrated. If he is not eating, then you can start feeding him chicken babyfood, squash babyfood & a little sugar free applesauce mixed in with that to help with hydration & a little constipation.
The supplementation of the calcium & vitamins are fine right now.
So did you readjust the distance of the Powersun to at least 12 inches from him? Actually, I am going to recommend you turn off the Powersun for a week or two right now to let his eyes rest. The Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb should be turned off as well. All you need to be using right now is just a regular basking light such as a halogen or a regular household lightbulb for basking.
Is the thermometer a stick on type of thermometer, or does it have a wire with a probe on the end to be placed right underneath the basking site?
Use the saline solution daily to help his eyes. They should start to improve but it may take a week or two for him to start feeling better.
Keep us posted on him.

Tracie

I don't have anything else to say except that I have been reading this thread for a few days and am pulling for your bearded dragon to make a full recovery. I also want to thank everyone who has offered advice on this site to me and specifically on this thread. I appreciate not only how concise the information is offered but how quickly and kindly. I don't know what I would do without this forum also. Thanks again,

Jennifer

Hello everyone!!!

She has been opening her eyes breifly then closing, if she hears something she will open one eye then close.

I have not had any UV light since I first started this post, I think Wednessday?

Since removing the Both UV Lights, i have put a 75 W Basking Bulb in as the only source of light/heat. The temps are lower than I would like them to be.

My temps currently are 93 on the hot side and 74 on the cool side measured with a digital

Humididty is 30%, there is no water inside her tank.

I have always regualary given her baths about twice to three times per week, for about 30 min I don't know why she would be dehydrated??? Maybe more baths for longer?

As I have been doing this post she has been staring at me . . i haven't had her in her tank much this morning mostly with me . . . how do i keep her awake?? I will try the baby food, as that is what I had to do to start her on her veggies.

I don't have anything else to say except that I have been reading this thread for a few days and am pulling for your bearded dragon to make a full recovery.
Thanks so much I appreciate it!!!!!

Also thanks so much Em for helping me out and getting more people to come help me!!!!!!
Diane thank you and Trcie thanks so much to you too!!!! Everyone that has posted here thanks.

I obviously got some bad advice about the lights!!! Hopefully he/she??? is on her his way to a recovery with all your help and suggestion once again I love this site its amazing!!! I await the Feedback from Diane :blob5: :blob5: :blob5:

How many times a day should I do the solution??? Also should I try to keep him with me or leave him be in his cage . . a lot of handling or a lot less what would be better????? :D

Hi DragonsRule,

It sounds like things are "looking up" a bit this morning... good to hear.

I would like to ask you, HOW are you taking the temps exactly? Are you placing the probe directly under her basking light, right on the surface of the area where she would bask? Or are you setting in just in that side of the tank? If it's the latter, you probably are getting lower temps. By placing the probe right under the light/the place where she would bask, you'll get a more accurate reading. If you're already doing this however, it may mean a higher wattage bulb, or different type of bulb. I have found house flood lights throw out a bit more heat. For instance, I recently replaced my 60w basking bulb with a 45w flood lamp, and it's doing right about the same heat wise, so that may be an option for you.

The 74 on the cool side is a bit cool, yes... I wonder if it may be a matter of moving the basking area slightly closer to the middle of the tank. Ironically, sometimes smaller enclosures are more challenging to heat. I found our 15 gallon to be this way, initially, and had to "fiddle with things" a bit to finally get it right.

Ah, now there's some good news. Let's see those eyes!

Also thanks so much Em for helping me out and getting more people to come help me!!!!!!

You are most welcome.

I obviously got some bad advice about the lights!!!

Ah yes, I've both been there, and done that, myself. It is a frustrating, and all too common scenario I'm afraid. *sigh*

Hopefully he/she??? is on her his way to a recovery with all your help and suggestion once again I love this site its amazing!!!

We're rooting for your little dragon. I feel the very same way about this site... our dragon is alive and well, thanks to the caring and helpful people here.

The best,
Em

yea dont worry your not alone with these issues, id have to say alot of this sites traffic comes from people who were misinformed by their local pet stores and realized something was wrong. I myself being one of them. But dont worry your doing the right thing for your beardie and i hope he/she makes a good recovery!

Thanks again Em and MagillaGorilla!!!!! Good to know I am not the only one!!!!

Okay so far as the temps go i place the probe right on top of where shehe would bask, so i am guessing I would need to try a flood lamp!!! Being in California it is surprising but it is still a bit chilly inside my house!!!!! I will also try to move the lamp towards the middle a little even though I have a 20gallon its a long twenty gallon so i don't think the heat is quite reaching to the other side!!!!
:blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:
Ohhh, more good news . . I have had Spike or Spikette out of his cage all morning with me also gave a very warm bath early this morning becuase shehe was so cold when i got him out of his/her cage this morning its about 1pm now and I just put him/her back in his/her cage about fifteen minutes ago and, spikey is actually out on his log basking yeahhhhhh!!!!!!! Head held high and proud!!! No more hiding so far!!!!!! Now we have to work on the food after he/she warms up a bit!!!

That is curious about the temps. Seems like you'll have to try something different there, and see what works, that is, until you're able to get a bigger tank, and then you can start the process all over again! What fun, eh! (Just went through it myself, and I must say, the 40 gallon was much LESS challenging to heat, than the 15 so there is that.)

GREAT NEWS about Spike/tte, opening eyes and basking. My feeling is, you caught this in time, before things got out of hand. Truly, great news.

Continue to keep us posted, please.

The best,
Em

The news just gets better and better. This is wonderful, DragonsRule!

In a few days, maybe you'll be able to get the ReptiSun back up and going... I'll leave it to Diane and/or Tracie to say exactly when that might be possible, though.

Great news! Thanks for keeping us posted!

Hi, I'm SO happy that Spike is doing so much better, that's GREAT news. :blob8: :blob5: It's amazing the difference a day can make when you make a few changes, isn't it?

I'm sorry we couldn't communicate longer last night, I was having issues with the forum too. I felt very badly having to shut down with so much up in the air. :( But, he/she has improved, so that's the main thing. I'm going to go over your last posts again to see if there are any unanswered questions that we should touch base on.

Oh, and here's another good picture that helps with the sexing in case you want to take another look. http://www.beardeddragon.org/articles/sexing/ Yes, we have our own "sexing" picture too. :p

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
