Hey all!

I need help! My beardie which i have for about 1 week now vomited yesterday and also today like 1 hour ago.
He is 12 inches about 6-8 months.
His substrate is aspen and the I have a UVB reptisun 10.0 with basking temp at 100f/38 degrees.
The past 2-3 days he seems not to be as hungry as before although still moving around and wanting to get out of his cage.
Today he eat 5-6 crickets 1 waxworm and 3-4 mealworms... plus some salad which all came out intact.
I dust they also with reptivite d3....
Also it appears after eating he opens his mouth to breath even though he doesnt need to thermoregulate at that moment.

I raised the temperature more to see if that changes everything...
I gave him a waxworm now and he eat some salad byhimself now

Im really worried!! here are some pictures also..

Hello,

What are the temperatures in the tank? The basking temperatures need to be around 95-110 & the cooler end around 78-82 or so.
For the moment, I would stop feeding any mealworms, in case that is bothering his tummy. They are not recommended to be fed more than a couple of times a week, & only really a few at a time. They are too fatty for younger dragons especially & hard to digest, as well. Stick with appropriately sized crickets, phoenix worms, roaches or butterworms.
What type of greens & veggies do you feed him?
Has he ingested any of the Aspen bedding? I normally don't recommend loose substrate for younger dragons. It is better safe than sorry as he could become impacted from that. I do not believe it is toxic because it is used for snakes quite commonly, but I don't think it is the best for lizards.
I would try to use paper towels, tiles, non adhesive shelf liner, or carpet.
How late in the evening have you been feeding him? He needs at leas 1 1/2 to 2 hours prior to bedtime in order to digest properly.

The basking side is at 103 now and the cool side is at 79,5...

I will stop feeding him mealworms .. only crickets and the occasional waxworm now and than.
I feed him green salad , cabbage and chinese green salad all very finely cut.
He poops pretty normal so i dont think he has ingested any aspen bedding.

And i feed any food atleast 2 hours before the lights go out.
Plus i feed him twice a day crickets and in the morning salad.

Hello,

Ok, I see a digital probe then. Do you put it directly underneath his basking spot for the readings? If so, the 103 is fine.
Perhaps the mealies just did not sit well with him. They can really cause some digestive issues in a lot of them. Try to give a little extra oral fluids to keep him from getting dehydrated since he has thrown up a couple of times.
Let me know how he does today. I hope he does not throw up his food today.

I just gave him salad yesterday...
Today after work I gave him about 8-9 small/medium crickets and he eat them like crazy, he also eat some salad from my hand.
He hasnt vomited yet.. So maybe it was the mealworms i dont know..
You think that the wax worms might be a problem as well?

How much should i feed him? because on the internet I read crazy numbers like 30-50 crickets when they are small..
To my baby I give him 10 crickets in the morning and 10 in the evening and some salad and also maybe 1,2 wax worms every other day and he seems to want more.

Im scared that if i feed him too much he will vomit again?? cause the pet store owner said i gave him too much to eat
Although im pretty sure he is talking crap but you can never be sure....

Also is it normal after eating maybe even a hour to open his mouth now and than like he is eating and puffing up a bit.. Its not the thermoregulate movement.. It must be something else.

Hello,

The mealies & waxies should only be fed sparingly & not daily. They are too fatty & can upset their little tummies.
When they are young & growing, they can eat upwards of 50-100 appropriately sized crickets, daily. The best thing is to let him eat for a 10 minute or so time period, whatever he wants, a couple of times per day, so he has the opportunity to get some protein throughout the day.
No, you did not give him too much to eat. The mealies just did not sit well with him.
They do open their mouths like that from time to time, & then sometimes after eating. It is a basic movement of them pushing food down & digesting, etc. I am pretty sure that is what he is doing. They love to puff out & look big, also.

Let me know how he is doing.

I left really early for work today before there lights went on and I put some fresh salad inside and a small box with crickets for them to eat...
I conveniently leave the crickets in the box with it open and when they want the go inside and eat them.

I came now home in the evening and all the crickets were gone plus some salad aswell...

Although he seems to have vomited again but not as much as he eat i think because i couldnt find all the crickets..
Maybe he got something in him.
He also seems hungry so i will feed him now again.. Dont really know what to do??

He scratchs his nose and face on the wood pretty hard although his nose is clean nothing running..
Now he is very active and wantes to leave the catch...

What should i do? i dont want to lose him.. and I think its kinda stupid to return it to the pet shop

Hello,

Well, that is some improvement that he did eat. Since you have not had him for very long, it is a possibility that he may have worms or parasites since he did come from a pet store that is very common. I think maybe you should get a fecal done on him just to check him out in that regard since he seems to be having some tummy trouble.
You could consider getting some probiotics as well, which could help settle his stomach also. The most common ones are acidophliz, benebac or non dairy soy yogurt.
Let me know how he is doing.
He might be getting ready to shed his face area if he continues to scratch & rub his nose on everything.

Hey guys! if i may chime in here, i see an exo - terra background in the tank. I got rid of that background in out pt-2614 tank for 2 reasons. 1. The crix would climb up and over hiding beneath it. and 2. being that our beardie vomitted a few times. Appearently as he would go for crix or jump onto the wall it would break off pieces of stirofoam, just enough to make him vimit. removed and problem solved.

Tracie thanks for the constant replies!

I have removed the back of the exo-terra cage a while ago I just had it behind the glass so it looks nice..
He hasnt vomited today and he eat salad from my hand..
Hope he gets better!
I will only feed him salad and 1-2 crickets for while untill im sure he is better

Im not sure what the vets in greece can really do..

Im not familiar with these : cidophliz, benebac or non dairy soy yogurt.

Can you explain please?

You can buy benebac in the pet stores for about $5.00. The pack has four (1) oz tubes. Tracie can probably tell you what the benebac dose should be for your little one.

Waxworms are like dragon candy. I don't feed any of mine waxworms. At 1.7 lbs., Miss Sydney is big enough. lol

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
