As you can hopefully see, the discoloration has spread on his back but has all but dissipated on his elbow. Some of his scales are a little flaky.

Hello,

When did these areas crop up before or after being on medication?
Normally, the ponazuril doesn't need to be given in excess for long periods of time. It should technically wipe out the coccidia with a few treatments, max. Has another fecal been done on him yet?
You can find the betadine in the pharmacy or any drug store in the area where the rubbing alcohol, peroxide, etc is.
I would hesitate to use ammonia also, a steamer would be safer. Are you using paper towels & cardboard in the tank to keep it cleaner right now?
The acidophiliz should help him out, most of the times it does.

The areas cropped up after the ponazuril. His vet has him on it for 28 days... It's only like 3 drops a day. Another fecal has not been done. We were going to once the 28 days was up. Should I ask her if I can cease the ponazuril and have a fecal done early?

I will go get some betadine.

I will keep up the steamer and not use ammonia (phew). Yes, the cardboard is for cleanliness. I have always used newspaper. I change the newspaper whenever he poos on it.

I can't wait for the acidophiliz to get here. It's coming with a CHE so he can be warmer at night too.

Thank you!

Hello,

Yes, stop the ponazuril. It should really not be given that long anyway. It may have caused an imbalance in his system possibly to cause the fungus, if that is what it is.
Go ahead & get another fecal done to see if it has improved.
Great, the steamer will be safer than ammonia! How is the cardboard working out right now?
The ceramic heat emitter should be fine to help with night time heating also. Keep his tank around 80 over night for him. I hope the acidophiliz will help him as well with his appetite!

Keep us posted on him.

I have stopped the ponazuril. I plan to get a fecal done tomorrow. The cardboard works really well. I live with two roommates, so there is always a carboard box on hand if he chooses to poo on the one he is using. I'm still waiting on the CHE and the acidophiliz :?

He should shed soon. I have been bathing him every day with some drops of betadine in his water. For some reason, he tolerates the clotrimazole more easily after doing this.

Even though he is about to shed, I can't help but notice that the spots seem to be spreading to other areas. Should I try lamisil or monistat instead?

Thanks!

Hello,

How is he doing today?
Great, let us know the results of the fecal. I hope it has cleared up now.
You can go ahead & try lamisil or monistat on those areas along with daily baths if the clotrimazole is not working right now.
The cardboard works really well, I agree. It helps keep it a lot cleaner, too.

How is his appetite coming along? I hope you get the heater & the acidophiliz soon!

Keep us posted on him. Maybe he will shed off some of the fungal looking area.

Well I have some great news! Custard's vet left me a voicemail that the fecal test came back negative for coccidia! Yay :D

She says that some beardie's poos are wetter than others. She says as long as it isn't pure mush, that I have nothing to worry about. Only, Custard did have a mushy poo this morning where the urate and the poo looked mixed. That kind of worries me. Could that be from the issue on his back?

His vet also said that I should continue the clotrimazole, because the fact that the spot on his elbow went away after using it is a great sign. She says I should continue with it for a couple more weeks to see if it is working or not.

More good news! He is currently shedding, and the first thing to shed was his elbow, which has no discoloration on it whatsoever now :) I'll still apply the clotrimazole to that area of course, just to be safe. I can't wait for his back to shed.

His appetite is insatiable! The pet store knows me by name and cricket number now. I pretty much buy all of their small crickets haha.

I found out that I have not received the CHE and the acidophiliz, because my credit card company flagged the order, so it didn't even go through. I have fixed that, so hopefully they should come within a few days. In the meantime, he gets strawberry soy yogurt after crickets and his fleece sock at night.

Hello,

Great news the spots seem to be slowly responding then.
How is the shed coming along for him now?
The stools do vary according to their diet & stress can affect them also. I wouldn't worry too much since the fecal did some back negative for coccidia, he should be fine right now.
I am glad to hear his appetite is great too, I hope he continues to eat you out of house & home.
Let us know how he is doing & how he does when he starts on his acidophiliz, too.

I have super news :blob5:

Custard has completely shed and the dark spots came off with the old skin! :D

I am still feeding him the acidophiliz(finally got it in the mail a few days ago) and rubbing the clotrimazole on his back morning and night(just to be sure). I believe that he is now a healthy and happy little lizzard (phew!).

He still eats a ton.

I think I've beat it! Any suggestions for keeping it away for good?

Thanks so much everyone (especially Tracie) for your help and support.

Hello,

That is great news Custard has shed off all of the fungal areas with his old shed while shedding. :blob5:
It sounds like he is doing well & eating a lot. Are you continuing the treatment for awhile longer now while giving the acidophiliz too?

I think it should be all cleared up now. Great job getting it all taken care of so quickly.
Let us know how things are coming along.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
