Hi, this is my first time posting here and I really need some help and fast! My female bearded dragon Todd (hehe, didn't know she was a girl when I got her) has been glass surfing all day. She is almost 1 year old. She lives in a 70 gallon tank with correct lighting and humidity. She lives on reptile carpet and she eats dubia roaches and super worms. Recently she has shown all signs of laying infertile eggs, digging, glass surfing, not eating, and swollen belly. I noticed this not to long ago so put in a lay box for her. She has gone in it but hasn't dug in it at all. Recently she has been running around like crazy and breathing really hard and I am getting a bit worried. Should I take her to the vet? She is my first reptile and I love her so much. What should I do?

Hi there....what is your lay box like , size + depth ? Is it in her tank ? Many dragons will act just like that prior to laying until they finally decide to choose a spot for digging + laying. Just keep putting her in the box and even start a tunnel for her....if it doesn't have a cover for it, put a partial cover so she feels more secluded.

The lay box is 6 inches by 12 inches and it is in her cage. there is no easy way to put a lid on it because she keeps nocking it down.

They may keep jumping out for a while before they decide to lay. So is your lay box 6" deep and 12" long ? That's way too small. It needs to be as long as she is. You will do better with a bigger one, gives them alot more room to dig deep if they want to. If you don't have one in your house just run out to a Lowe's/Home Depot or Dollar store. You'll need more sand, too so get some of that or just a 10 -20 lb. bag of top soil [ with no fertilizer ] to add to it. Then add warm water to make it damp enough to hold it's shape but not wet.

Yes you can if it fits and your able to put it in . If you get one that's about 20" long and 7-8" high leave the lid on and cut one corner out [ about 6 inches X 6 ] , fill it pretty full with sand and keep putting her in and leave her. Keep a log or rock next to the box so she can climb in. You can do it that way ot else get the really tall sterilite storage tote and keep it outide of the tank. Either way, you'll just have to wait to see if she's going to lay, she should do so when she's ready but get the box set up ASAP.

I have a couple more questions, can I take her out to play? How can I tell if she is egg bound? If she doesn't lay her eggs in a couple days should I be worried?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
