Hello to everyone out there. My name is Blake, and the beautiful girl you see below is Salacia.
zo7wxi.jpg

I just picked her up on Friday. I saw an ad on Craigslist and saw how poor of condition she was in. Turns out, she has never lived with a UVB bulb, and had a poor heat lamp. Her "Hot side" was only hitting about 79 degrees. This was inside of a 20Gallon tank. Yes, a full sized adult Beardie in a 20G tank. When I went and saw her for the first time, she was hardly moving, barley eating, and looked miserable.

Since Friday, I have bought her a new 40G breeder tank, a Retisun 10 UVB light fixture, new heat lamp, got her new Decor for the tank (Last one had 3 rocks in it... That's it.. not even a basking spot) and have been treating her the way she needs to be. Since just Friday, she has already improved phenomenally. She's active, she's eating and chasing her crickets, and she seems extremely happy so far.

Here she is in her new home!

This is my first Reptile, and my first pet since I moved out of my parents house. I know I don't know everything, so anything you can help me with, it would be greatly appreciated. I know her tank is pretty basic.. Any ideas on what I could put in there for her, what I should replace, anything.. Anything at all. I want to make her as happy as possible.

Thank you,

Blake

Thank you, Beaming.

I've been wanting a Beardie for months, and have been researching them nonstop. As soon as I saw this little lady, I knew it was my time to get one. I'm very happy I could save one of these awesome Reptiles. She loves to cuddle. We sat and watched Breaking Bad last night before bed. She was attentive the whole time. It was actually pretty cool!

i was just on craigslist looking at them for my self to see if i could save one myself. and i saw her add and the condition she was in was terrible!shes glad to be saved from that horrific place!!your inspiring me to save one my self!!

Hi! welcome, and you are the best for taking in this little sweetheart!

Most of us on here prefer solid substrate to loose substrate. Especially since your new baby is in a fragile condition, I wouldn't want her to get any respitory problems. Sand is also messy, can be ingested and block up their system, and harbour bacteria.

I personally use tile, but I know others that use nonadhesive shelf liner, repticarpet, and paper towel.

Hopefully she fattens up to be an amazing cuddle bug!

I'm in the planning stages of building her a 4x2x2 Viv, and that will be lined with Tile. Though, I don't know how long that might take me. I will get some Tile in there ASAP! No sand, CHECK! As you can see in her picture, her nails are pretty long. I'm assuming that the Tile will help file them down? I don't want to cut them myself as she is still skiddish.

I sure hope so. She was pretty relaxed watching TV with me before bed. I would love for her to get a bit fatter..She seems a little bit too small ATM. She's 4 years old.. I don't know how much she should weigh/ how much she should be eating. I bought 20 Crickets yesterday for her..She DEVOURED all of them, and she has been eating her Romaine lettuce like crazy. It seems the UVB has made her more hungry! I think that's what it is supposed to do? I don't know. I'm loving her, though :)

Glad you are enjoying her! :) I'm not much of an expert on rescues or adults yet, but I know they eat less bugs than babies. My 4 month old is eating 50-60 a day.

She is gonna need some more nutritious greens. Fruits and veggies also might entice her to eat! At 4 years, their diet is about 80% greens. I know that there are some fatty worms some use to help their dragons gain weight.

Here is an amazing website I swear by on what and what she can't eat! :) http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
I have it printed out by Toothless's viv.

Yes, if you get a rough tile, it should help keep her nails filed down. I also have a brick or two in my viv. They soak up heat and are rough for nail care.

You can always use paper towels until you get her new viv ready, if you don't want to splurge on tile right now.

There are plenty of people that have experience with rescues, so hopefully they would know about rehabillitation. You can check out some of the threads in Beardie Rescues. Some of the super inspiring ones I know are Lexi and LG. SweetiePie gives amazing advice when it comes to rescues, so you can look her up and PM her as well.

Thank you so much :D I will take a look at those websites, and find those people! I could use any help I can get! I hope her rehabilitation won't be too difficult. She has already improved immensely.

I will take a look right now! :study:

She is beautiful, glad you were able to rescue her. I'm sure in your care she will have a long happy healthy life. I hate seeing the conditions a lot of the beardies are in when posted on craigs list. Horrible conditions. Anyway, she has beautiful colors and love her name.

It's sad. There's a few in my area that are looking pretty bad. I wish I could rescue all of them. She stole my Reptile heart!

Thank you:) I named her after Neptune's wife in Roman Mythology. She was being called "Tyson", even though the previous owners (Can I call them that?) knew she was a female. I like my name better:p

I just gave her her first bath. She seemed to enjoy it. I would pour a little bit of warm water down her head and down her back, and she closed her eyes and I SWEAR I saw a smile:D

I certainly hope so :) She's sleeping on me after her bath. It's very cute. She snuggled up under my shirt collar(Her snout, at least.) and passed right out!

I have a very small fish tank pump with an airhose and airstone..sometimes I will put it in Geico's bath after he poos and has clean water and let it spray a bit and move the water..he drinks better this way..otherwise he takes his water from a small syringe. Em is only 2-3 weeks old and just sits in a tiny bath and poos..both go in the water. Em will drink a bit from the bath, or a syringe. Anyway, Geico seems to love the little bit of water movement and spray. I dont let it go for very long.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
