Hannibal and his tail rot

Hi Everyone,
So I adopted Hannibal from a neglected family about eight months ago. I know for a fact he has tail rot- about half his tail is pitch black, freezing cold, not pliable, and when touched, doesnt seem like he feels it. I am not worried about the infection moving up as it has not seemed to these last eight months, but I am contemplating whether or not to get it amputated. Would it be more beneficial to get part of his tail amputated, or would it be okay to leave it as he hasn't experienced any direct problems from it?

Have you had a vet look at it? I would think it would be best to get the tail amputated because I would be afraid of the tail rot doing something internally that you can't see. Not to be rude but if the tail is basically dead why keep it attached to your beardie. I think it would be causing your beardie some discomfort. Anyway good luck.

No, I appreciate your opinion. I was thinking the same thing- I am making an appointment with a vet first thing in the morning.
