Halogen bulbs safe?

I want to get a Halogen bulb because my 150 Watt normal bulb isn't cutting it. (Not warm enough)

I heard you can get a 60 Watt Halogen bulb and it will be MUCH hotter AND they last longer. Well hot dog! I'm in! Except, I still live with my mom because I'm only 19. She says Halogen bulbs cause fires. Is this true? I mean, it's kind of scary to leave bulbs on all day when nobody is home so to have "potentially fire hazardous" Halogen bulbs on while nobody is home scares me.

How reliable is a 60 Watt Halogen bulb? What are the chances of it catching fire?

I use halogen flood lights as my basking lights and even have a 90 watt one on a dimmer. Unless you have it on plastic or something that could melt then you shouldn't have any problems.
