Gravid female--What to do?

Sara, I'll go get xrays probably on Friday. I have class literally from 8-4 or 5 everyday except Friday when I'm done at 11. Plus I ride my bike so that's an extra 30 min before I get home. Fortunately Remi's vet is one of my professors (exotic animal anatomy and husbandry!) so I'll talk to him on Tuesday and show him that vid I got.

Lance, yeah, it's been set up since the end of December. I usually get the stink eye when I put her in there but yesterday she actually dug for 15min!

Why are females so much trouble??

I actually took Lil to class last Monday cuz I couldn't get home and get her back to the vet in time. I'm debating whether to take her tomorrow. I have time to go get her, but it will add an hour of driving time to my day.

She's currently in her lay box, digging one mother of a hole. I'm afraid it's not deep enough now

Lance, you breed dragons, right? (Although I'm not sure why you'd want to go through this on purpose..) What's typical of a female when she's gravid? Once she's actually digging in the lay box, how many days usually before she lays? Do you keep the lay box outside the viv, or in it like Sara? How big of a lay box? If it's outside the viv, how often do you put the female in there?

Ugh, can I be done? I feel for you Sara, this sucks!

OMG!!! I just checked on her, and I see an egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (she dug all the way to the end of the lay box and so I can sorta see her rear end)


Now I just need to squash the urge to go look some more, I want to double check that it's an egg and not my overactive wishful imagination, but I get the feeling she doesn't appreciate me around.

Colleen, I use a rubber maid tote, the same one like the roaches home.18-20 gallons. But clear for this one. I fill it quarter to half way with sand and eco earth. Dampen it. I took the lid and cut out a hole for a heat lamp. You dont need UVB during this time. She will dig and dig until she thinks it is a safe haven to deposit her eggs. Some females are different then others, one of mine lays in a few hours and the other one takes a couple of days. One of the dragons I did have only liked to lay in her viv! When I know they are digging I let them be in the container and dont disturb her at all. I will offer her food once a day but leave her in their to do her business. Then she will back her butt in the hole and lay. once they are deposited she will cover them up. I then take her out and bathe her and in the mean time go and search for the eggs. You can put her in their in the morning and take her out before bed time. I have been doing it like this and never had problems. It is fun once you get the hang of it. :wink: Any more questions just ask! And you can always give a nice warm soak in between everything! You can rub the tummy but you need to be careful not to rupture an egg cause then death can be present if you dont catch it quick!

I'm so excited I can't still and study. It's taken me 3hrs to go through all 17 flukes and tapeworms for tomorrow's test. Sigh...

Lol, it'll be interesting when I tell her vet that she laid eggs two days after he told me she wasn't gravid!

Your welcome Colleen. She will let you know when she is done, she will cover up her hole and wont be digging anymore. can take 10 minutes-10 hours! :roll:
