I was wondering what would be a good piece of decor (whether it's for reptiles or not) that's good for beardies to not only maintain the heat, but to trim their nails as well. I was thinking about putting a block of concrete in Sapphira's tank. She was outside today and kept sitting on dirty rocks, so I grabbed a broken block of concrete and she LOVED basking on it! So, I was wondering, can I put this in my tank for her? Is it bad that it would hold the heat, or good? I live in Florida, so it would be good for the winter time, but I'm not so sure about the summer time. I don't even know how hot it gets in her tank. I haven't had the money to get an infrared thermometer like I wanted. All I know is she gets hot enough to open her mouth.
Here's pictures of the concrete block. I put it in the shade, but she sat on it long enough for the sun to move to where she was in direct sunlight. I keep her nails short, but I love when they get filed down for a smooth finish. Also, since it was in the shade, it never got to warm up. The concrete block was cool because it was originally in the shade. So, I don't know is there would be any negative effects on the beardie if the concrete block gets warm. Will it overheat them like a heated rock (like the ones you buy)?
