so i just bought a few dubias from the pet store and totally forgot about size. charlie is approx. 13 inches, and the space between his eyes is a little less than an inch. the dubias are about 1 1/4" to 2" ! they're huge and disgusting and nasty and anyways, these are way to big right? im going back to the pet store tomorrow to "downgrade", just wanted some opinions

Well, if you weren't already grossed out by the roaches I'd say to pull off the wings (males) and cut them in half! ...But it doesn't sound like that's an option for you! :lol:
I actually LIKE the roaches. They're kind of like another pet for me... well, a pet that I feed to a pet. :shock:

haha NO THANK YOU. i could not handle that. any other bug but roaches. and i don't have the time to start my own colony, and i don't think i could stand the thought of knowing there are hundreds of them in my garage :x

I took Porter to my daughter's girl scout meeting the other night for pet night. I also took some roaches. Surprisingly, many of the second grade girls wanted to touch the roaches!

So did Porter!

to me, roaches are waaaay less gross than crickets. i judge grossness by stink, so crickets are up there with puke... seem to be tasty to my littl epooper tho

my boys LOVE the roaches!!!

And I must say my crickets dont stink AT ALL, I keep them in a rubbermaid bin and I sweep the whole entire bin every second day, once a week I take out all the Crix, put them in a nice temp bin and wash out their rubbermaid, dry it, put everything back in, I even wash their dishes and change their egg cartons once a week and I have absolutely no smell!!

i just dont wanna work that hard for my poopers food... call me lazy if you will, but i clean out the crix container when i get a new stock in from ghann.

goodness, i cannot wait until my dubia start doing the nasty and popping out a ton of those creepy crawlers!

Well I have a weak stomach and can't handle smelly things, plus to think the crix living in the stink cant be good for them either?? I dunno

takes about 2 mins every other day and 5 mins once a week, I wouldnt consider that working hard :wink:

Question, you have all these cricket's in your large plastic box, and your about to clean them out. How do you transport the cricket's from one area to another? Do they bite?

Im curious to when ive got to clean my own out, im not scared of bug's but im not opting to be bitten either by a gang of em lol

I just pic up the egg crates and shake them in the other container to get the crickets off, then move on to the next piece till I've gotten them all. That way I don't have to touch them. I've become pretty impressed with myself for never touching the blasted things.

UGHHH just fed him 3 dubias, 3/4 of their body fit in his mouth but he had to chomp and i can't even describe how much i wanted to puke. blechh. good thing they are expensive so i don't have to buy them that much haha.
