My awesome wife got me a new dragon the other day after getting tired of seeing an empty custom tank...(can see that in the viv pic thread) and he's tiny little guy (or girl...not sure yet) Only a few months old I'm guessing. His body is only about 2 1/2 inches long and from nose to tail almost 7 inches.

Now for a couple questions... While getting the lights my wife got a repti-glo 10.0 for me not knowing they werent all that great for beardies. I did return it to the store but no one around here has any repti-sun lights so I ordered one and should be here within 7 days. So in the meantime I have no UVB for my little buddy. I've thought about bringing him outside for a little bit for real sunlight but its gotten a bit chilly up here in upstae NY. (hovering around 65-75*)

1... is that to cold for him to go out side? Especially being so small and young. My concern above the temp is that he's still a bit stressed and still getting use to his new home. He's eating here and there but nowhere near the cricket killing machine he should be. He grabs some veggies here and there as well.

2... is going a week with no UVB going to hurt him and cause greater problems then a bit of stress?

3... are there other options for getting him the needed UVB he needs?

EDIT:: Also if anyone can tell what type of beardie he is? All I know is the pics make him seen lighter then he really is. His back is slightly darker and the spots are more white than tan. He's also got some light blue on his arms and legs.

Thanks everyone!

aslong as he's gettinguvb from the sun everyday he should be okay just put him on his basking spot when you go back inside so he'll warm back up you might notice him getting a bit sluggish thisis because of lack of uvb but he should be fine

Yes, taking him outside in the sun will be great. One thing to be VERY careful of, dragons can turn into world class sprinters, and there are many stories of them nearly escaping [ and actually escaping ] when taken outside + held. If a beardie is sickly + sluggish, there is much less chance of them escaping, but a healthy one can leap and dart away from you in a second. So you might get a dark plastic tote and put his basking platform in there, that will stay warm enough for him, but be there with him to be sure it doesn't get TOO warm. You'd be surprised how warm they can get with the sun shining in them, as a matter of fact if it's above 75 degrees the clear totes are better, because they don't absorb the heat. Either way, just stay with him outside for a while and he'll get plenty of UVB.

Thanks for all the replies! So out side it is. I have a 10 gallon I can put him in with some rocks while we're outside.

OK that solves that issue. so any thoughts or guesses on the type he might be?

@AHBD, Ya he's a quick lil' bugger... lol He's proven that one with me laying on the floor with him. Would be in line for a medal in sprint, hurdles, and long jump if he was in the olympics!

@diamc, I live in Binghamton. How about yourself?

Thanks again for the quick replies all!

such a cutie! :)
Just wanted to add that putting him on top of something dark colored will help him with warmth while he's outside too! I just had my big guy outside for some sun and it's currently 70* here; he sat in his "bathtub" container on a dark-colored towel and was a happy camper :)

Oh, ok Binghamton, I was hoping it was closer as I could probably have fixed you up with a hood and a Repti-Sun 10.0 that would still be good for at least a few months. We live about 45 min south of Albany.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
