Hello,
I've had my beardie, Puff, for about a month now and he's around 3 months old. I am going away for the weekend at the end of the month and am not sure what to do about feeding him. My mom is able to give him his greens daily and my dad will stop by and give him a bath, yet no one is willing to feed crickets. I am most definitely not going to feed him meal worms, and I believe he is still too little for small superworms (he is 8 inches). I do have the nature zone bearded dragon food, which he seems to enjoy. I was thinking if worst comes to worst I can just have some of that available for him. I have his uvb light on a timer, so no worries there. I also don't feel comfortable exposing him to a pet store or anyone else's home or reptiles. Will not having crickets for 2 to 3 days do anything major to his health?

Hi there...the beardie bites is a good idea, but it would be best if he could have some crix. Will your parents pick up your beardie ? If so, you might just keep some crickets [ about 30 -40 ] in a plastic tote from Walmart/Home Depot . Then have your parent just put the beardie in there for 5 - 10 minutes for a feeding session, them back to his tank. Hopefully he would chow down on the crix. If not , he will survive with greens + beardie bites for 2 days. :)

Are your parents ok with worm like bugs. You could put in an order for ReptiWorms or Phoenix Worms and then your parents could give him those. They are healthy and much easier to handle than crickets, in my opinion. Plus, you don't need to do anything with them, really. Just stick them in a lunch box and pull them out when it's time to eat. No feeding or cleaning, and no escaping, either. There's also silky worms, but I haven't had any experience with them so you'll have to ask someone else how easy/hard they are to take care of and handle.

Get a cricket keeper. Put about 50 crickets in there (however many you figure he'll eat while you're gone). Put the black tubes down in the keeper. When it's feeding time just have your parents pull the tube out and shake them into the enclosure. I've only managed to dump too many crickets in with Elvis once. He ate until he was full. I just laid the empty feeding tube in his enclosure and believe it or not the crickets went back into the tube. I came back about an hr later, took the tube out and dumped them back into the keeper. That's the easiest way I've found to feed Elvis crickets. He knows when he sees the black tube come near his viv that it's chow time!

Also the tubes are an easy way to dust the crickets w/ Calcium. Just dump a pinch down the tube and shake or swirl the crickets in the dust. They'll come out looking like they've been floured.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
