Gastric adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer) signs?

Anyone know signs of gastric adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer)?

My berdie has not eaten in almost a month on her own. After about two weeks, brought her to the vet who confirmed she looked in great health, light and husbandry are all good. Prescribed Metronidazole to help entice an appetite. we tried lots of other foods to no avail. During this time we started syringe (force) feeding her two things from vet: Oxbow Critical Care & Canivore Care. Still no eating on her own. Back to vet for xray and blood work. Ruled out egg issues, impaction, etc. Only thing on bloodword that came back was a slightly elevated white blood count which apparently is a sign of parasites. She had those before, but no symptoms of that this time, but treated anyway. The past week it's like she is burping or regurgitating. She does this regularly throughout the day and a few days back it was bad after she was force fed. She never threw up, but she was in obvious discomfort after feeding. Vet then said to stop feeding and feels there is a good chance she has gastric adenocarcinoma (stomach cancer), which apparenlty is common in bearded dragons. Also, she seems very bloated/full of gas (which did show on the xray).

It should be noted, for the last two years, she brumented for about three months starting in August. She basically sleeps the entire time (which I'm told can be hard on their system). I would wake her weekly for bath and she'd be awake for a day and eat, then back to sleep. Starting In late July, she seemed to start on schedule, sleep for couple days then awake and eat, back to sleep. This only went on for a couple weeks, then she stopped eating altoghter, but is AWAKE ACTIVE!

We can do exploratory surgery (ummm, no) or an barium study of GI tract with ultrasound that was still rather invasive. I would really rather we find out more info and don't see any need to put her through that if there is no treatment for the stomach cancer anyway.

Overcap - 3 yr old female beardie will not eat on her own for past month, nothing significant came out of xray or bloodwork, UVA/UVB light is good, seems to regurgitate or "burp", is awake and active and does not seem sick at all!

If she has stomach tumor/cancer, wouldn't she act sick?? I just keep thinking this is how she is choosing to brument this year - which I know seems silly b/c she's not even hiding, much less sleeping.

She may just be slowing down a bit which can happen at different levels. Sometimes full brumation and sometimes just lack of appetite and lower energy level/more hiding. Check her weight to ensure that is remaining relatively stable. She shouldn't be losing much. A high white blood cell count may indicate infection of some sort causing an active immune response. I had a dragon with Gastric Neuroendocrine Carcinoma which I've seen happen to others. It doesn't show many signs up front but blood work may show highly elevated blood glucose levels. If your vet didn't see that in the blood work, then it may not be the case. Other signs include weight loss and possibly gout but that may vary quite a bit between dragons. The high blood glucose levels seem to be the common link.

Can I ask if they did screen for parasites this time? Is the testing done through a lab or in-house? There is a possibility you treated for the wrong parasites, different meds treat different parasites.

Her weight seems to be staying stable, very bloated/gassy though. Again, white blood count was only slightly elevated. I will have to email doc and asked about her glucose levels. I didn't get a copy of the results, so don't exactly know what was tested, but they did a "comprehensive profile". Your beardie with the GNC - did it seems sick or lethargic? Or have the burping/regurgitating thing I described?

They didn't screen her poo, just treated for a couple kinds of parasites. The "c" one and something else. I think probably b/c my vet bill was already over $500, so they just treated w/o testing. She was px Albon 50mg/ml/ml and Fenbendazole(Panacur)Susp 10%/ml. When she has parasites before, he poo was very stinky and liquidy. Her poo is a perfect little sausage and not stinky.

I know how that vet bill can climb quickly. The blood test seems to be the most expensive part. Hopefully she doesn't have any parasites left. The vet did mention to me that the white blood cell count can still look high but there may not actually be an infection it could look normal but an infection could be present. Also even if glucose levels were high it doesn't always mean anything either. It can go up a lot from stressing out over the blood draw. I have had that happen to one of mine and the second test it was normal so they didn't worry about it. I think the best thing those tests are for are to check organ function and calcium. I am only going by what the vet told me she is not a specialist but has experience. You may want to ask your vet about it too. Hopefully you are giving probiotics? You could try giving some bee pollen (from health foods store) just for some added vitamins. Put some in a syringe with water and let it absorb and shake it up.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
