Well, she FINALLY did it!!! Fuzl laid her eggs, there were 28 total and all fertile!! She is my first bearded dragon and my favorite!! Her mate (Sucha - said like "sooka") is a marketed leucistic (very white) and Fuzl is a hypo leucistic. I cannot wait to see these babies!!!!

Congratulations! We also got our first clutch of 24 eggs this morning. I am SO excited, even though we had not planned on babies. We just bought Fiona 2 weeks ago, and I guess she was already gravid. Can you tell me how you know if the eggs are fertile? I have heard that infertile eggs are yellow and shriveled. Fiona's eggs are white, but kinda soft and I can see the yolk through them but I don't see veins or an embryo. But then again I don't know what I'm looking for.

Congrats again!

Hi there Ali!! The fertile eggs when you hold them to a light (brighter the better) you will see veins on one side, that is fertile. If you hold them up and you see nothing, nothing nothing, then it is a dud. Fuzl laid a single dud in her clutch, which happens... so if you find one that is good, be sure to check them all!! You have to incubate them in closed containers (with air holes) to keep the humidity in the container. The container need vermiculite and perilite that is slightly moist to set the eggs on.

Let me know how it goes!!

I would even put the dud in the incubator for a few days. I had two that candled like duds and were yellow and then 5 days later I re candled them and they both were fertile! Doesnt hurt to give it time none the less, right!
Check out the popcorn and tatty thread there are some ok pics of candling that may help you. be VERY careful, dont turn or squeze them and be sure to wash and dry your hands very well before you handle them.

Thanks so much. I'm too nervous to pull them out of the incubator and candle them. I think I'll just wait a while and see what happens. Can someone explain what the eggs are supposed to feel like? I was expecting them to be harder, like a chicken egg from the grocery store. instead they felt plump and squishy, is that normal? The eggs are white and look nothing like the pictures of infertile eggs that I Googled, but I could see the outline of the yolk inside. Does anyone have pictures of what fertile/infertile eggs look like? That would be SO helpful. Thanks again for all of your help and advice.

Yeah they are supposed to be softer, they're gonna almost double before they hatch. And seriously check out the popcorn and tatty thread in the breeding forum. It has everything youll need as far as pictures go.
Just relax and dont fuss over them Natures gonna take its course and all you can do is let them sit in the incubator. Weather you candle them or not they are either fertile or infertile. Just give them some time and see what happens. You should know in a week or 2 if they are duds. Make sure to give Fuzl lots of TLC and good nutrition...it's hard to give birth!!!

Thanks Aaron. I have been pampering the new mommy since she finished laying. She had a nice warm bath and was handfed greens, dubans and crickets all with calcium powder. You are right, there is very little I can do except ensure proper temps and humidity and hope for the best. I did read the Popcorn and Tatty thread and my eggs look very similar to the pictures so that made me feel a little better. Now I'm just playing the waiting game and hoping I know enough to keep these little ones alive and well.

Thanks again,

Ali

Fuzl is on her 2 day eating strike right now! My other did that, she is my baby that is why I am so excited!!!! I give her liquid calcium, so she gets everything she needs (along with the multivitamin) Good to go!! Now I just got to wait for the next clutch from her!!!

This is so exciting! My husband swears he isn't going to be able to keep it together when he becomes a grandpa since he is this excited about BD eggs. I have 6 kids and they are all waiting on pins and needles for the next clutch and eventually for baby beardies! I got brave last night and candled a few of the eggs and I saw spots and veins! I had to look on youtube to learn how to candle the eggs without hurting them. I really love youtube! You can find anything on there. Anyway, it looks like Fiona's eggs are indeed fertile and we are in for a wild ride. I'm so glad I have this site to refer to for info when I get stuck. I have done a ton of research on beardies before getting them but I didn't focus too much on the breeding aspect since I was not planning to breed just yet.

THanks again for all the info and encouragement! Healthy mommy and babies are really what's important and I'm determined to make sure that happens.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
