My first bearded dragon arrived today! I haven't named him yet but he's such a CUTIE! After weeks of building his viv and dreaming of him he's finally here.

I had him shipped to my office (he came from Midnight Dragons out of Illinois) and he didn't get here till around 11:30. It was SO hard to wait knowing he could be here any minute all morning. Anyway... I popped open the outer box just to be sure he was OK and then rushed him home to his nice warm Viv.

Here he is in his tupperware after we placed him in the viv. It's so cute... he looks so shy.

Here's his first picture out on his bask.

Here is a shot of more of the viv and him. He's a little man in a big world.

Here is some shots of his first meal in his new home.

He sees the worm:

He EATS the worm:

He's a little stressed but hopefully he'll be feeling all better by tonight or tomorrow. Here he is looking like master of his domain:

I'm totally not sure what to name him yet. I think I'll have to see how he is when he's gotten more comfy. I've got a huge pool of names to choose from...I'm just not sure which is most appropriate :)

I'm just totally smitten. He's a little CUTIE!

I used to work at a small Pet store and we sold Bearded Dragons. They were always little and delicate babies (about 5-6") so we didn't really get to handle them or anything. I thought they were cute but didn't grasp how cool they grew to be. Then one day a customer came in with her adult beardie on a little lizard leash in her carrying bag. She took him out and he sat on her shoulder and was so beautiful and mellow.

Well that started the beardie bug in me. However that was the summer before I went to college and I knew my dorm would be WAY to small for an aquarium and well.... reptiles weren't exactly allowed. Then the past few years after graduation were spent in a relationship where animals weren't exactly welcome. Now I find myself in a position to have pets again and I'm SO EXCITED!

My guy is helping me in planning and building a Vivarium so I can bring home a beardie of my very own! I fully intend to spoil the little bugger ROTTEN! I'm sure I'll be posting pictures and questions while building the viv. I really want to be sure to do it right so my beardie will be as comfortable and safe as possible.

I"M SO EXCITED! I've been chattering incessantly about my future dragon and researching like crazy.

I was hoping to adopt an adult that needs a new home. Is this a good idea for a new owner or should I start with a Juvenile and raise it myself? The pet store I used to work at has a few that are about 12" long right now.

Anyway..... -waves- Hello everyone!

You should get it s a juvenile and raise it by your self, the reason is that if you adopt one who knows what could have happened to it in the past. they could have a health problem or maybe even anger issues. i just got my juvenile 3 - 4 weeks ago she is now 7 - 8 weeks old :) i will post a pic of her and her enclosure if u want :D

 Hello & Welcome to BD.org! :D
Anything we can help you with just let us know.

As far as what age beardie you should get is really up to you.
I can say that babies and juvies eat more bugs less veggies than adults, poop more, and are more active.
But adults sometimes have a harder time finding a good home so..........you might consider helping one less fortunate beardie out. There's always time later to get a younger one. Afterall they are very addictive an you may find in a short while that you must have another. Kinda like "Pringles" you can't have just one.

Again Welcome Aboard! :D

DragonFire12000: Thanks for the suggestion. That's kinda what I"m concerned about. Maybe I should wait until the next MN herp society meeting to make the final decision. If there's one there that's needing a home and in good shape maybe that'd be ok.

-ponders-

I did feel awfully drawn to one of the little guys at the pet store though. He kept lookin' at me and tilting his head. XD CUTE!

Oh and I always love pictures :)

fresnowitte: Thanks for the advice and the warm welcome!

I think it might be best if I don't make a move till the next herp meeting. I really love adopting animals that seem to need a loving home but I doubt I'm knowledgeable enough to handle one with special needs like Zak & Wheezie. (I've read their whole thread and they're AMAZING!.... Kudos to you for being so dedicated to the little cuties). Maybe there will be an adult there that's perfect for me though.

Whether I get a youngin' or an adoptee I guarantee they'll be well loved!

Thanks for the Kudos! :D
And no matter what age beardie you get I guarantee that you will totally enjoy your beardie.
I have beardies of all ages an I have found so much enjoyment and happiness with them all.:love5:

Welcome.
You could try craigslist. I see many on there and new ones pop up almost everyday. You can always check them out. Many people are selling because they can't afford them or they don't have time for them anymore. You will get a nice feeling when you know it's the right one for you. Check out their habitat to see if their taken care of.

Check the For Sale Thread on here. There are some very pretty colors out there.

hi ive been away from the forums for a year as my beardie died last year :( but im getting a new baby tomorrow, anywho, i got an adult about 3 years old and he was great really chilled, i think it may be easier as a new owner to get an adult (provided they have no issues) as they are larger and hardier.
anyway have a great time with yours.

fresnowitte: I know I'll be a devoted beardie mom. I'm more worried that I won't be able to stop at one!

1happymommy: Thanks! I'm kind of a Craigslist junkie. I've started looking but all the ones in the area that were listed are already spoken for (the adults that is). I'm gonna keep looking though!

Wow are you right about the for sale thread! BEAUTIFUL beardies! -drool-

Thanks for the suggestions!

N4TH4N: Welcome back and thanks for the advice! That's kinda my feeling on older ones. They seem easier to start with as far as care is concerned. Also they'd fit very nicely in the new viv I'm building :) I still can't help but feel the allure of raising my own little dude and watching him/her grow into full beardie glory.

Oh! An you should be :laughing6: they're like "Pringles" you can't have just one.

I'm thinking that may be the case.

I'm SO EXCITED! I've chosen my dragon. After MUCH deliberation I decided to get a young dragon from a small breader. I'd really like to do a rescue someday but as several people pointed out they may have medical issues that would be tough for a first timer to deal with and I wouldn't know their background.

I was searching some breeders I found on here and I came to "Midnight Dragons" site. They had a little red one that I totally swooned over. He's about 10" and he said he can hold him until the Viv is ready (up to 4 weeks).

He's the CUTEST THING! I'm totally smitten.

Thanks fresnowitte!

I'm excited beyond words. Now it's like all I want to do is go home and work on the viv so I can bring him home sooner.

I've started brainstorming names but I'm not picking till he gets here.

Maybe Clifford (like clifford the big red dog) or Rufus or Ignatius (iggy for short)

SO EXCITED!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
