Funny Story (why reptile owners are the best pet owners)

Warning: It involves poop.

I wasn't really sure where to post this, but figured I need to share this with other dedicated beardie owners.

About two hours ago, I started to freak out about my beardie. I noticed today that it seems she was either bloated or starting to gain weight. For a while, I started really doubting myself as an owner. How had I not noticed?

When I got home later on, I noticed she started seeming really finnicky. I figured it was time to start searching symptoms of bloated gut, being finnicky, etc. I came across multiple articles stating SHE MUST BE PREGNANT. She's only 9 months and has never been in contact with a male. Still, I saw young beardies can still carry infertile eggs. Worried I began writing a post on this forum, asking for much needed advice.

I put her on my chest, taking pictures. Soon I began typing away, trying to cover every question that I had about this problem. Once again, she seemed really finnicky.

And then it happened. She propped herself up, and relieved herself in the most grand fashion right on me. I sat her back on her rock, threw my clothes in the wash, took a shower, and opened up my phone to see my "pregnancy" draft. Lightbulb went off.

Goes to show that reptile owners have to put up with just as much as any other pet owner. Sorry if I grossed you out, but I guarentee somebody has a story just like it! Next pregnancy scare, I think I'll just give her a bath...

And instead of being angry you felt mainly relieved that was all it was! Welcome to fretting about dragons =)

bet she was pleased to get rid of it .... betting that wasn't the first time , or will it be the last time, you have ,or will, wear a beardie poo.... I'd be pleased she did a poo.

.... moral of story .... always keep some paper towel handy that you slip under their bottom if they lift up the bottom and big end of the tail ....

LOL!!! I was in a pet smart parking lot (before I stopped paying their ridiculous prices) and my female enjoyed the trip. As we open the car door, she poops all over me, and I was wearing a white shirt. Lol!!!

Congratulations for her finally getting things "moved"! ???

You know you're a Beardie lover, when you start to watch for poo, not to avoid it, but to be sure your baby feels good! My boy Dez absolutely hates his own poo. He runs to the other side of his vivarium as if from the scene of a crime, then frantically waves at me and claws at his glass to get out! He also makes a huge production out of getting the job done; lifts up on his toes, does push ups with his back legs, and wags his tail....good thing is, I am always forewarned so I can take action if he is on me or the couch.

My funny poo story: I was, of course, bragging about him to a visitor about how Dezi NEVER has an accident outside of his Vivarium. He was on the sofa, and immediately begins his poo-poo dance...barely got him back to his Viv in time!!

My husband and I took Dez with us (naturally) when we went for a long vacay in the RV last month-- our maiden voyage in our first RV. Dez loved it. He spent alot of time on my lap watching the world go by, as my hubby drove. We discovered that Beardies...well, they fart. And in the confines of the RV cockpit, it is not easy to ignore.? We have decided that one of DesiLu's superpowers is the Atomic Lizard Fart!

Here he is, enjoying his special built Beardie shelf, looking as innocent as a little lamb...

My Rasit poops on me more than he does in his tank. I've started to figure out when he's about to, but am rarely quick enough to do anything about it.

I've come to the conclusion that when you have animals or babies (especially bearded dragons), it's best to get over being squeamish about poop as soon as possible, otherwise it can make your life really miserable.
:puke:
We're lucky that ours had already learned to poop in the water during his baths when we got him, and it's much easier to just dump it down the drain, but you can never expect perfection. When you gotta go, you gotta go.

"I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that he's not constipated anymore. The bad news is that he's not housebroken anymore either..."

I suppose our worst one was when he did it in the bed. Oh well. It was time to change the sheets anyway...

You learn quickly to identify the telltale buttwiggle which gives you a few seconds of warning. With older dragons if you get them on a routine you can train them to poop in a certain spot around the same time every day. It's not a perfect solution but helps quite a bit once they get to the point of going only once per day or two.

This could be my new favorite thread!

Maggie isn't finicky about where she poops, but she prefers right on the basking branch/rock. I swear it's like she wakes up and poops right where she is laying!! Then later in the day she turns and poops down the side of the rock. Really?? You couldn't move three inches to the left???

A few of my gilas have projectile pooped on me. They do it sometimes when they are upset with me. Worse part is it stinks really bad because they eat rats. Thankfully it hasn't happened in over a year.

My Spyro has pooped in the same spot at the same time every day for the last 2 months. Other than that he only poops in his bath. Makes clean up easy and keeps me from being pooped on. It's always early in the morning too so it's over and done with by the time I'm ready to handle him:)

Nefarian and I were chilling while I was fixing my Fantasy football lineup, this was quite a few weeks ago. I picked him up to put him back after a hour or so of chilling and he pooed all over me and my computer chair the biggest greenest poop ever! I just smiled and said it's okay honey, put him back into his habitat. Then I cleaned it up like a good beardie owner.

Its the intent behind getting pooed on that is the problem. If I get deliberately pooed on its totally different than unintentional. Seems like its never an accident when it happens to me. They seem to orientate their cloaca directly at me....

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
