fungus, idk what it is

my bearded dragon has a dry rust colored area around his nostril that seems to be growing up his head, he also has some enlarged scales on his snout.

What substrate is your dragon housed on?

It doesn't really look like any fungus to me.

That just looks like a thick shed actually. A little extra misting can help to loosen it [ not heavy]

Ok figured it out it was dust from the coconut husk substrate, and his nose is just shedding, I feel like a dumbass but this is how you learn, it looked to be some kind of moldlike stuff and I was wondering why I couldn't find pictures of it, thanks for your concern, we got to the bottom of that. Im done with coconut husk its too dusty.

Coconut husk substrate? Beardies tend to accidently ingest loose substrates. If I were you, I'd remove that and put down non-adhesive shelf liner, Repti-carpet or papertowels, just to be safe. :?

correction, it is walnut shell that i'm using and no longer using.

Oh, yeah that's even worse. Glad you stopped using it. I use a mix of the coconut and organic potting soil for my anoles and it retains humidity really well for them. Of course, they have a completely different environment than the beardies!!

Well, I'm glad it wasn't fungus or a weird skin problem at any rate.

Never use a loose substrate. Watch your beardie for awhile and you will see him tasteing everything. If they get a belly full of the loose substrate you will find you have bigger problems than a hard shed. Like ShannyBeard said.... shelf liner, repticarpet, paper towels or you can use newspaper. Plus all those except the repti carpet are easy to clean.

Yeah potting soil is fine for anoles. They don't lick the ground or eat off the ground, as they have a worm bowl and the hunt their crickets up in their high plants. They need the soil to keep the humidity up, but of course beardies require an entirely different enviroment and less than half the humidity of the anoles. It is very interesting and challenging to have many different kinds of reptiles and creating special habitats for each one.

ok i'll just use some material that i find at a store whatever it may be thats anything but a loose substrate.

Tiles super easy for a beardie tank! Cut to size, you can bake it/bleach it/soak it.. do whatever you really need to do to clean it We soak our tiles in a hot water/vinegar mix once a week. Easy peasy!
