Since our little Crack is having a fun time feeding (as in not eating his greens and not being super interested in live prey) we've resorted to feeding him baby food from the syringe (which he does pretty well with but definitely isn't eating a lot) and well, baby food is only good in the fridge for 3 days after opening and let's face it, he's only eaten maybe 1/20th of the jar (small jar).
We've started dicing up his dandelion and mixing it into the baby food and offering it to him in his dish that way, he licks at it but won't eat it.
What if I pureed the dandelion and his other veggies, mixed them in with the baby food and then froze them in ice cube trays so that I had just enough for one feeding each time in order to keep the food longer?
I understand that freezing the veggies loses some of their nutrition, but if I'm doing it in the baby food and when it thaws I'm feeding it to him with the syringe, all the water/juice is still going into him so does that "keep" the nutrients?
My husband thought we could dry out each leaf of the dandelion, lay a paper towel onto a cookie sheet, lay the dandelion leaves on that and freeze it, then bag them up once they are dry & frozen... would that work? Is it the moisture that sogs them when they thaw that was on them or in them?
With his appetite being so little right now and us not having anyone else to share dandelion with, we're wasting a lot of it and we're just trying to figure out how to preserve it and keep down on costs if we can.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Jill & Crack
