I have to measure how big the opening is for the top screen I'm not sure if I'd have enough room for the heat lamp too. Could I use the t8 to put it inside if it doesn't fit? I can't measure it until I get back hone from work tonight

You could go with the T8 mounted inside. I'd use a reflective fixture to direct the UVB down over the basking area. A T8 should be mounted about 6-8'' above the basking area for best results.

Alternatively, if you decided to go with a MVB you could put it on an adjustable lamp stand and keep it raised above the lid of the tank so you won't have to move it to open the tank. Their optimal distance depends on the bulb and measured temps but is usually in the 12-18'' range.
