Since our new little one lost her sister shortly after coming to us, I have been extra diligent with her care, keeping an eye on her constantly to make sure she's happy & healthy.
Well last night before bedtime I went in to check on her and found her stuck behind the rock cave between the tank wall & the rocks. The top of her head was black and there was white foamy/fluffy stuff around her mouth and at the back of her head!
My first thought was she'd gotten stuck and the crickets I'd fed her earlier had attacked her and eaten the top of her head open!!
(even though I was sure she'd eaten them all, but found there were still a couple hanging out under the paper towels)... I almost cried as I scooped her out to look at her head closer. Turns out she wasn't stuck at all, but was there on purpose, rubbing her head on the rock to loosen the shed on her head, lol.
Sure enough it was her first shed (she's about 6 weeks old now) with me (has she shed before if she's this young?). So into the sink she went to soak. After that she basked and went to bed.
This morning she was looking pretty rough again with the skin, so I soaked her again. The little nostril shed pieces she let me help with and then back onto her log she went. She'd run around the tank, rubbing on the log as she ran along it, brushing up against the rocks too. Within a few minutes she had the rest of her body shed off and I assisted her with her feet & tail too. She was so funny, lets me touch her but then it's like I tickled her, she kicks her foot (like a dog if you stick your fingers between the pads of their feet, lol) but stays put, letting me touch her.
Our baths with her have been interesting, I figured out if I hold my hands under the running water with the plug in, she sits in my hands in the little pool I made with them and the running water moving around her helps with the poops immensely. First & 2nd time in that type of bath and both times the moving water makes her poop almost instantly. So good to know but too bad she's going to grow because she fits perfectly in my hands as tiny as she is now!
So she's eating great, pooping a ton and now she's shed too! YAY!! Sunflower is going to be loads of fun - she's doing the arm wave too which is too stinking cute! And she watches me when I'm dealing with Crack in the tank beside her, he's noticed her I think but hasn't decided she's anything interesting at this point. She is happy to be handled, patted, scooped, etc. and hangs onto my hand when I try to put her back down, breaks my heart!
Pics to follow (my laptop won't recognize the camera stick so I have to find the fix for that and then I will post pics!)...
