(Desparately seeking wisdom)

I have a 3 yr old male & female BD that have been living together just fine since they were 10 wks old. The cage is roomy, well lit and heated and the BDs have never been sick or had ANY problems ever. They eat very well consistently and dont show any bad behavior

At about 9 months the female laid a clutch and then did 2 or 3 more across the next 6 months.

None of the eggs hatched. We had a hobivator and did everything we read to do, but none of them eggs made it past 2 weeks. The humidity and temp was carefully (insanely) watched, 90+% looked viable but every one of them shribbled up. To be accurate, we didnt wrap them in vermiculite, but the env was spot on according to the 2 gauges we had

I suspect either A) they werent fertilized or B) We made a mistake that we have yet to identify

Anyway, since then, my BD has not laid any eggs in 2-3 YEARS. She is in the same cage as they get along great! I cant find any posts about this at all. From what I read, she should be laying even without the male present.

Any ideas why she would be healthy yet not lay eggs?

PS.
If this helps, SHE DIGS CONSTANTLY for years. She has no front nails, hasn’t for years, AND our cage doesn’t offer her any place to truly dig down. The sand bottom is only 3 inches deep so she hits the cage.
If she ever does lay, we will put her in a laying bin…

Hi Paul,

I see no one has responded so I will give you my 2 cents for what its worth. First, separate these dragons if you want to try to breed them. The fact that the female constantly digs and has no nails on her front feet is concerning. You say they get along fine....I say she sounds stressed. Give her some time in her own enclosure, let them both brumate, and then introduce them back to one another in the spring.

Good luck!

She may be egg-binding, possibly because she does not have what she considers to be a suitable place for her to lay her eggs or because they are malformed and she is not able to get them through her birth canal. If she is constantly digging she needs to be put in a lay box. A large storage container with moist sand or peat moss and a heat lamp clamped to the top should do. When you lift her tail does her belly look lumpy, or can you feel things that feel like grapes in her tummy? If you can then she is gravid. Egg binding can be deadly if she holds them in for too long. If she is trying to find a place to lay eggs she will pace and dig constantly.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
