Like you said, superworms are good for helping with weight, just make sure a balanced diet with veggies and other live prey is provided as well. Once you've got the diet under more control, I'd say you could start offering some smaller superworms and see how it goes. They are softer bodied than meal worms, so they usually don't pose too much of a digestion problem. Just keep an eye on things, and hopefully it'll work itself out.
