falkor's story

so, i thought i'd go ahead and start up an ongoing thread for falkor. if you're interested in reading about his beginnings and the mini adventure i've gone through trying to right the wrongs of the pet store, check out my introduction thread here - viewtopic.php?f=44&t=131036&start=0. either way, i'm going to go ahead and repost the pictures from that thread and continue to add to them


the day i brought him home along with his original setup:

his current setup (the middle is a little dirty from calcium dust - time to clean the carpet)

almost looks like it could have been take outside - well, except for that black cord ;-)

here's a funny shot i took the other night of him sleeping. he normally sleeps up on his branch, but on this particular night, he didn't quite make it before falling asleep :-D

i just bought some slate tile tonight and i have it all ready to go in. that'll happen as soon as i get out of work tomorrow. count on some more pictures then. i'm so excited - i think it'll look really cool :-D

She is adorable! I have a Falkor too
I just put a small stuffed cow in my Falkor's tank, he's head bobbing at it right now. I'm hoping he will eventually snuggle up to it like yours. My Falkor is almost a year old. I have him in a 75 gallon tank, I just ordered a hammock for him, should come this week.

thanks! i assume that you like neverending story as well? i'm sure he'll eventually warm up to the cow and he'll definitely love the hammock

Hi Aaron I love the new pics of Falkor,her strange positions are so funny! That is so cute the way she fell asleep on her way from Crunchy to the hide :mrgreen:

just when i think she can't get any weirder, she always manages to come up with something. that's ok though, she takes after me ;-)

PS:I don't think you are weird for making her hatchdate the same as your new babies b-day,I think that's special

awww, thanks. we're hoping that the baby will be able to kind of grow up with falkor. once he or she is old enough, i want to teach him or her all about taking care of dragons

LOL, yes I am a big fan of The Neverending Story, Falkor is my luck dragon. Plus I'm a big geek and I'm into fantasy books about dragons. He hasn't gone near the cow yet, he did head bob at it. Now he is just confused because I moved his log around and he is waiting me to turn his "nite lite" on.

I love Falkor's webcam too, I was just watching it with my 8 year old son, he got a kick out of it.

that's great! it is definitely one of my all time favorite movies/books. and that's cool that you and your son enjoy the webcam. it sets my mind at ease to be able to see her while i'm at work, but i like that other people get to enjoy her as well

Well, Falkor was the name before we realized he was crazy, then we were thinking Skitz, short for Skitzofrentic (don't ask how I know how to spell that w/out looking it up) because he is like 5-polar (you know, like bipolar, but he's got like 5 dragonalities, not just two) and the most demeaning feature is the psycho side. If you want to know what his 5 are, ask me. :mrgreen:

falkor seems to have had a bit of a growth spurt this past week - she gained 33 grams! she's now up to 210 grams and almost 16" long. i can't believe how fast she's growing. i started putting her weigh-in pictures into a single folder and it's really cool to see how much she's changing - though a bit sad at the same time. i'll probably wait until she's about 18 months old or so and then i'll compile the weigh-in pictures into an animation. i think it'll look really cool to see her grow up like that now, on to the pictures!


weigh-in:

all bundled up in forever-towel after a bath

running around on forever-towel. i guess i should explain why i call the towel "forever-towel". it's basically because she'll start running while she's sitting on it and i'll turn it around and around so she can keep running but pretty much stay in one spot. therefore, the towel goes on forever

an interesting sleeping picture (can't go a week without one, right?) here, she's resting her chin on her temperature probe. as usual, seems completely uncomfortable to me, but as long as she likes it, i guess that's all that matters ;-)

finally, here's a picture of her laying on the side of my face while i dozed off. it all started because she got into that position on my back where i couldn't reach her. so i decided to lie down on the couch to try and coax her off my back. well, it worked and this is where she ended up. she seemed so comfortable there so i didn't have the heart to take her off. in the meantime, i ended up dozing off and larissa thought it'd be a good idea to take a picture :-D

thanks michele! i know, i just can't believe how fast she's growing. it feels especially good after getting off to kind of a rough start with her setup and with her being a pet store dragon. i'm not sure where she would be without this site. everyone here is so helpful

no, that was actually friday night. but she sleeps pretty close to that position most nights. seems to be her favorite place to sleep overall

awww, thanks carrie! i'm glad that falkor kept you entertained for a few minutes and yeah, i will definitely continue with the sleeping pics - no need to worry there ;-)

Aw! I just love her she is so cute. Forever Towel is so funny!
I love the ways they sleep too. When I first brought Falkor home the next morning my Husband woke me up and was all worried. He said he didn't think Falkor made it through the night. I freaked out and ran downstairs and there was Falkor sleeping very soundly standing up in the corner of his tank up against the glass. He's too big to do that anymore, now he just sleeps all pancaked out on the bottom of his tank. Come to think of it, his hammock and new rock hideout should be here today!!
