so, falcor is my first beardie. she has been doing this spring fever thing for close to a month now...driving me nuts! she eats barely anything and just wants to stare out the window and run around the house and try to climb walls!!! she eats next to nothing, only the occasional roach (1-3 per week!) absolutely wont go near her veggies (she used to LOVE her salads??!!!) and only eats baby food mixed with critical care!!!! last month she weighed in at 470 grams, now she's down to 461...hopefully she doesn't drop much more weight. :banghead: i've tried everything, superworms, hornworms, waxworms, butterworms, silkworms, NUTTIN! she looks at me like im crazy...which i possibly am!!!!! so, in my insanity, i made a comic strip to make myself feel better. plus, i'ver heard & seen people here like comic strips!!! so here ya go!

I had fun making that!!!

but, seriously, that is ALL she does....stares and stares hours upon hours out the window...!!!!! LOL

i will return with more comics!

do they ever return to their normal selves? or is it endless craziness here on out?

Nice pictures, your two beardies are so cute, especially sharing the window with your cat. Don't you just love fleecy blankets? All my beardies have them, too, they all love them, as they keep them nice & warm. My boys, except Leo, are sound asleep. I think Leo just gets up in the am to watch TV!
Hope your 2012 is good to you all,
Deb

thanks christine, deb & kalyn!! lol deb, i love that leo gets up just to watch tv, thats so funny, what a character!!! :)

yes, my beardies are both little hams. tolkien is a bit more shy and skittish yet, in comparison to falcor...give him time though, he'll be a super-ham like falcor lol!!!

while they were awake from their little slumbers, i weighed them both....falcor is a whopping 700 grams  and tolkien is only at 550 grams...falcor is a big gurl, but she doesnt look like she weighs that much, which is amazing!! i hope tolkien gets bigger, but i'm not so sure, since he was bred more for color, you lose some size in the process. come spring, falcor will burn 100+ grams of that winter weight off though, cause all she does is RUN RUN RUN GLASS DANCE-DANCE-DANCE + a major hunger-strike, she is a spring fever nutcase, that's for sure. i've had her long enough now that i totally know her routine, she has trained me well..... :whip:

i'm eager to see how mr. tolkien reacts come spring. he's so laid back and cool (yet sometimes shy) that i don't know what to expect yet. too much fun, can't state enough how much i love these critters!!!

Falcor sounds like my boys, I stuff them during the summer as they each will lose 100g from Spring Fever. So glad I'm not the only one. Once they all wake up, they're all sound sleep right now, that's when it will start. So I made sure that my skinny Leo gained lots of weight, he went from 415g to 550g so he can lose the weight. The others, too, except Lonzo. He's still just over 500g but he's not heavy enough for his frame. But he's also 8 1/2 yrs old, so I keep a good eye on him. I wake them every 2 wks for water, they bask for a bit & head back to their hides or beds to konk out again.

How old is Tolkein again? I'll have to check back in your thread. I have a memory like a seive :banghead: :D

CONGRATULATIONS TOLKEIN, sorry I missed your 1st birthday! You're just going to get bigger now, sideways, but maybe in length, too. Sweetie grew another inch her 2nd year. I didn't realize they could still grow longer.

It's not a big deal, I keep forgetting Rubio's as we've had to make up birthdays for him & Leo, they were rescues, so not sure of real age. But they get birthdays just the same, with a treat, like a silkworm, hornworm or waxies.

More pics, please :D :D

there was just too much moving going on for us and other things at the time.
still no excuse, it totally slipped my mind, i had to get his paper out to see when he was hatched, and it was in october  yes, there will be birthday pics!!!

he seems small to me, because i'm so used to falcor, tolkien is 18 inches long and weighs 550 grams. he's just very lean looking, he has a cute boodah belly and a very healthy thick tail, and he's happy so that is all that matters!!! its fun to see the differences between the two dragons.

i have to use both my hands to handle falcor, but with tolkien, i can get away with using one hand to hold and pick him up!!! i'm also surprised to see he brumated so fast. it took falcor awhile before she did the brumation thing...all dragons are different!!!

i sure hope he keeps growing but i still love him to pieces no matter!!!

I can relate, all beardies are so different in personalities and size,..............my Mica looks like a juvie to me, but I'm sure it's d/t his first year when he wasn't with me. As long as their healthy, right?

Right. 18" long & 550g is fine for a one year old. You'll see, he'll gain a bit more weight & might grow another inch.
Give him & falcor hugs from me & my sleeping dragons (all 4 are sound asleep)

ah, ok, so you can wait for 2 weeks before having to wake up the beardies and bathe/give them something to drink. they both have been out for a week now...this is a new record!!!!

was getting nervous on how long they can sleep without needing a drink. thanks deb! :)

You're welcome! I used to wake them up weekly, then realized that was too soon, so every 2 wks works better. I don't feed them anything, just give them water, cuddles & basking & back to sleep. I know alot of people who just leave their dragons to sleep as long as they want. I worry about dehydration because I keep the living room heat up a bit in the winter for my gecko. His cage is all mesh & he gets upset if the living room gets too cold. Better safe than sorry, so that's why I wake them every 2 weeks.

Leo is still getting up most days & I do swear it's to watch cartoons. Being right beside the TV helps, too. He has slept a bit, but not more than a few days & he's back up again. He's just the funniest beardie. He'll black beard the TV (why? who knows) but when I pick him up or take him to the kitchen for water, his beard is the most beautiful yellow.

It sure is quiet over here, I'll be glad to have them all up for a few hours. I sure miss them when they're asleep, even though that means I get to sleep in every morning, which is a good thing for me, but I still miss them when they're sleeping.

hey christine & deb, any noise over in your beardie households?

well, i promised tolkien-birthday pics, so here they are. he has been up for a few days now, so i took advantage of that. he was totally spoiled by me, because i felt really bad for missing his 1st birthday (BAD BAD MOMMA!!! lol) i let him eat dubias till he could not eat anymore, and he was very happy with that, those are his favorite bugs! so he had a great birthday (birth-days lol). he went poo and rehydrated, so he's now back to more brumating. was fun while he was awake for a little bit!!

here are the pics!

:blob5: :blob8: :blob5: HAPPY HAPPY LATE 1ST BIRTHDAY TOLKIEN!!!!!!!!!!!! :blob5: :blob8: :blob5:

Handsome boy in the pictures, thanks for sharing.

I gave 4 baths and fed some of my babies today to get some calcium and fluids into them, other than that, it's pretty quiet here as well.

Awwww, he's a present! Glad he enjoyed the bow, he sure looked like he enjoyed it. Glad he enjoyed all those roaches!

I have dubias here, too, I found a young man on this site who was trying to reduce his dubia colony as he only has 1 dragon & they were mutiplying really fast. So for $40 I got two tubs, 1 really large, which I gave to Jake (my dragonsitter) as he has 6 geckos. The other one I kept & put them in a 20 gallon tank. They're multiplying like crazy. What do you feed your dubia, I've never had them before. Alex said he feeds them dog food & apples or oranges. They go nuts over the oranges & I've noticed lots of little babies, too. The adults are getting huge, so I'm going to have to cull them down soon. Leo eats medium sized ones & Didi did try to catch one, but it was too fast & disappeared in his tank, never to be seen again. I really couldn't find the darned thing. So who knows where it will show up.

Your Tolkein is really big for his age, he'll be full growth by 2 years old & I'll bet he grows more, at least outwards, if not longwise. I remember pics of him when he was alot smaller. He's got such pretty colours, or should I say handsome? Keep up the good work!

hi christine & deb!

it's about the same here too, although i think falcor is totally confused about texas weather patterns here. she's been up almost every day now, i think she 'thinks' it is spring...in january...lol....poor thing!!!! she's eating alot of collard greens, eat a few supers here and there. tolkien woke up once and is now back to snoozing again.

about feeding the dubia roaches, mine seem to really like berries of any kind...raspberries, blackberries, strawberries and oranges too. they seem to like juicy fruits and veggies. although i tried throwing in a small handful of oatmeal, and they seemed to like that too. i was really surprised that they didnt like bananas, not at all. so i just keep giving them veggies washed in water so they get that too when i feed them. i see lots of babies in there so i think its working. falcor and tolkien both are picky about what sized roaches they eat. falcor chomped on a big one a long time ago and a small part of the roach got stuck in her throat (she was fine, worked it down the old pipe lol) and ever since that she wont touch anything over 1/2 inch in size. tolkien is the same, he gets freaked out by the bigger bugs lol.

i snatched some pics of falcor snoozing on her blanket & heating pad/ramp by the window. she reaallly loves it there. she is wearing her bright happy yellow colors!!!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
