I’ve been looking through different substrates for my beardie and I found excavator clay. Just wondering if this is a good substrate and if anyone has any experience with it. In the future I will be making a bioactive setup for my guy but for now will this work?

I've heard mixed things about it. It's nice that it can form a fairly hard surface and you can mold structures out of it but I've heard it can get crumbly and messy. You may also have a hard time keeping it sanitized if your dragon poops in it regularly. The advantage of a good bioactive setup is that it would drain and then be broken down by the small critters in the soil. The clay wouldn't have that available.
