Escaped Dragon--Disaster Averted

So I went on vacation for a week and my girlfriend's dad took care of Bulmers. We came home today and he met us in the kitchen looking very concerned. We thought her cat who has cancer had to be put down, but it turns out she's hanging in there. He said "You have a very bad frog". Yes, he calls Bulmers a frog. Jokingly, of course. After all, we did let him take care of our lizard. We have a top to our viv that is split in the middle. One side is up so the heat can get in better. We got B a hammock for Christmas, so we're assuming this was what put him "over the top". B somehow managed to climb out of his viv and make the 3 foot fall from the top of the tank to the floor. Luckily, her dad is very attentive to animals and had been checking in every two or so hours. Bulmers was found under the table that his viv is on. He didn't go far as he was probably a little freaked out. He seems unhurt. He was running around when we went took him out. He also ate after this ordeal. We think maybe he heard the crickets. He was eating a mix of medium and large the past few days, so there's some chirpers. I guess he wanted to go hunting. He's in a 20 long right now, and the only thing that's more that 4 or 5 inches from the floor of the tank is his hammock, and even that's not very high. He must have made some jump and boosted himself over. I'm working on finding a 40 or 55 for a reasonable price. He's quickly outgrowing the 20, so we're gonna make the switch soon. Just thought I'd share this fun little story.

Glad to hear he is ok. My male is a jumper also....I have him in a 20 gal long and when i go to feed him he gets so excited that he jumps from the bottom of the tank to the top and grabs on to the top to try and pull himself out. My wife gets so frustrated with him cause he does that every time she goes to feed him....i think its funny. He also likes to run thru his poo and track it all over his cage. I can count on at least one phone call a day from my wife about his crazy behavior (i've only been gone for an hour and already got one call from her :lol: ). She says he is a typical male, "he makes a mess and expects me to clean it up." :twisted:

My first dragon was an escape artist too. But luckily for us he never went far. He was rather fond of sitting in the sunny spot on the back of one of our chairs.

Oh I know exactly what you mean. My Quigley is in a custom enclosure that we built from a dresser. We have lexan doors on it and while we were trying to get ventalation correct we had the doors cracked a little to let more air in due to the ambient temps getting to hot. Well I came up from working in the basement to find him no where to be seen. I totally freaked. After looking all over the living room we found a very cold lizard under the couch taking a nap. Little stinker. I had no idea they could squeez through such a small space. When we got him back under his basking light he flattened out as far as he could. I could almost hear him sigh as he came in contact with the warm rock. lol I am glad nothing bad happened to yours when he jumpped so far.

Good thing he didn't go too far. I almost lost Spike the other day from wandering off. I heard a sliding scraping and came back in the room and he ended up half in the trash can :roll: I think they like to make trouble
