my beardie started laying eggs so far 8 have come out over 3 days....i was not prepared but i tried to rig something up so i was tosing them in a Tupperware bowl with wet sand and a heat lamp i know this clutch will proboby die but i wanna know what to get ready for the next time she decides to lay eggs ....i notice after a day the eggs start to get indents and shrivel so on top of wat i need to get ready hes some other questions i keep getting mixed stories on =]
1 how do i handle them and transfer them?
2 pink side up?
3 what do the indents and shriveling mean ?
4 the male i have tends to dry hump her back! 0.0 sometimes he grabs on to her by the neck with his mouth but his body and genitals are no were near her are the eggs getting inseminated? is there a way to tell by looking at the egg?
5 im told i will need a incubator or thay will die!.......well thay dont have them in nature how true is this and why is such high humidity and heat needed constantly? Australian deserts during a beardies mating season can drop to 70* at night time! do thay lay near river beds for such high humidity?

I would use a spoon to carefully pick up the eggs without turning them.
DO not turn eggs if you look in and pink side is on bottom do not turn it to up, if pink side is all ready on top do not turn it down.
Indents and shriveling mean the HUM is to low.
Some times males need maybe a little help getting his tail in the right spot and some times they can just get it right on there own :p, also the eggs will not be good if they did not mate as in his genitals and hers meet. BUT sense you said they were in same tank there is that chance they did it without you seeing.
YOU could look at the egg and say if its white and round and plump its a good egg, if its yellow or gray its bad.
and yes you WILL need a incubator of some kind to keep the eggs alive. DO not leave them eggs in with her, she could kill the eggs by laying on them, or she might think there food and eat them. Also the eggs wont live in th at tank you can't keep that HUM high in there without hurting the adult dragons. And 70 is way to low for eggs, the eggs need to be 80-84F. So thats another reason you can't keep eggs in that tank, cause the temp will have to go down at night. Its diff in the wild than in a house. In the wild *where they live* its alot diff than what happens at home in a tank.

ALso its hard to explan how it works in the wild, there is no way any one can make the wild at home in there tank. Sure you would make it the wild if you lived where BD's lived in the wild and kepted them out side yes but here in the USA we can't do that. We can only get it close not perfect. not sure if you understand what i trying to say, some times i talk and cufuse people lol.

I also want to add, even if the season drops to 70, the underground where the eggs were laid and coved up stays warm from the hot sun that was out that day. And, some times there eggs are more than 18+ inches underground.

Do you mean they each get 5ft long tanks? Or you mean one 5ft long tank is split?

You need to post a picture of the eggs as it sounds like you have a batch of infertiles unless you had your dragons housed together during the breeding process. Otherwise I'm 100% positive your male did not breed your female, as they have to physically mate for the eggs to be fertile.

But fertile eggs look very white and plump... And if you look carefully or candle them you will see a pink or red dot/circle. And yes this side faces up!

Here's an example of a breeding that produced fertile eggs: (Notice the tail positioning and 90 degree leg of the male to support the female's tail and his genitals)

also i have a question sorry. Well if the eggs where not touched and you put a light on them and the red dot is on bottom SHOULD you turn it? I was told and read every where not to turn the egg.

No the embryo which is the red/pink dot or circle must be facing up for proper gas transfer, otherwise your babies might suffocate. And yes you are correct to assume not to rotate/turn the eggs once they have been placed with the embryo facing up, turning them or handling them after the first few days can "tear" the yoke stem or sac. (Which will result in the death of the embryo).

Do you mean they each get 5ft long tanks? Or you mean one 5ft long tank is split?

its split :D

and from the pics u guys posted ...yea i think my male needs some lessons he does not flip her tail up and get under there but on the other hand eggs are really white and big and come out with 0 flaws and i did the candle trick....but im still not 100% on how to do it.....i mean i know how to but ..it would be better if i new someone with a fertile egg so i could compare lol :study:

how long does the cycle usually last? and around how many times a year will a female lay eggs?

also....to clarify.........as soon as the eggs come out thay can be turned pink side up but after that thay cant be touched?! :blob8:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
