Eggs Coming!

Well, poor little Willow, only 6 months old, gravid by her brother due to them being stolen & put together in the same cage, is about to lay her eggs. She's been glass dancing & digging like a fiend for 2 weeks. She's about to pop. Her eggs are clearly visible even tho she's so small. I just made her nest & she's loving it. They'll be here soon I think. I KNOW she mated with Gandolph, her brother because he was trying to mate with her when I got them back. Idk if the eggs will be any good, if Willow is too young & this will be the end of her (I pray not), and if any of this will turn out ok. I've lost 3 lizards & then I lost Roxy last week who was 14 yrs old & died of old age. I hope I don't lose Willow & that her eggs will be good.

For even a fully grown, healthy bearded dragon (Responsible breeders wait until 18+ months of age) the egg laying process can be very stressful. The thought of a 6 month old beardie being bred to her immediate brother just about scares me to my wits end. The offspring of the pair, if they do develop, can be expected to have physical malformations (Such as deformed or extra limbs, severe joint kinks, etc) as well as mental problems. It is probable many will die just after hatching. A lot of energy and resources go into the making of the eggs, and your female's growth and health will be disrupted to make the eggs. You need to make sure she is in the best possible health by giving her plenty of baths to keep her hydrated, as well as feeding nutritious foods such as Collard Greens, Sweet Potato, Arugula, Cactus Pad/Pear, Dandelion Greens, Endive, Escarole, Mustard Greens, Squash (Summer squash and butternut squash are favorites) You should up her calcium intake as well as her multivitamin intake.You also need to make an adequate lay box for her to dig and deposit her eggs in, as well as get an incubator for the eggs. I hope your little girl makes it through, becoming egg bound is a likely outcome for the underdeveloped beardie. In the future, please be more careful with your dragons. Males and females should never be allowed together except in the event of mating- something that should not EVER happen between directly related dragons.

I've done all that you mentioned as I've kept beardies for 20 yrs. Willow is getting the BEST of care, since I got her back. I've been breeding my beardies but my roommates stole the 8 of my 12 (& a Uromastyx). I only got 2 beardies back, and my Uromastyx. The 2 I got back were this 6 month old pair who were in the same cage AT A PET STORE! So no, I don't need to be careful about putting young dragons together. It wasn't me. I know better. I wud never do anything like that but apparently some people would. Thx 4 ur input tho. I appreciate all the help I can get at this rough time. I only hope she makes it thru this.
