Egg Questions

Our two beardies had eggs, this is her third time and we were unprepared the first few times and even still now weren't expecting it so soon. My boyfriend didn't tell me she was pregnant until two days before she popped so I didn't have time to get her soil to lay the eggs, so she had them in the tank. No biggie, I found them about 30 minutes later. All white, round, plump with visable embroys 25 total. But it was about 10 at night so I didn't have anything for them, I was told I could put them in water so I did that for overnight until I could get to the store. Heres the problems:

Had them in water.... They were at the correct temperature the entire night but now they smell kinda funny. I dont know if its just because they were in water the over night or that the water killed them?
They were moved around quite a bit, even in the tank when she was laying them. Now there in the soil in their incubator and I moved them as little as possible. They're at the right temp (82) with plenty of humidity and I'm watching them like a hawk.

Should I wait it out to see if they're okay, dry up a little bit and keep up the healthy shape and color?

Hello, well this my opinion but I don't think you are supposed to put them in water!! But I would candle them and see if they are fertile, chances are they probably died!! But again this is my opinion.. I would Pm one of the mods or a more experienced person on here!! And I would bump the temp up to 85 degrees... Just my thought.........

I'm sure they're fertile.

My thought process was (besides being told I could do so by a local reptile store) that hey, they just came out of chiquita's belly so going back into a water environment wouldn't be that far off...

I've read about misting them to keep them moist and then not misting them because it cloggs their pores and also that if you bury them they wont get oxygen and can drown them. I'm a little confused to say the least.

Well from doing research I don't think you are supposed to mist them because that's how they breathe. But the fact that they where in water all night and moved around alot I don't think that's a good sign............But like I said someone one on here probably could tell you better!!!! Just my thought, but I would leave them alone untill someone else helps out on here!

Hello, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you more than likely killed the eggs by putting them in water. When the female decides to lay the eggs it is because she has done all she can and can no longer provide the necessary oxygen they need to survive. By placing the eggs in water you cut off there supply of oxygen which would result in death of the embryo. Im sorry that the person who told you to put them in water provided you with incorrect information. Eggs can survive being buried as that is how they hatch in the wild, but excess water is what does harm to the eggs. Again I'm sorry for the bad news but I thought you should know.

The water may have done them in. I would still wait and see what happens but I would not be hopeful. You can bump up your temp to about 85 to 87 degrees. Never mist the eggs directly. Spray the sides of the container you have them in.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
