I was going to suggest checking for retained shed on the tail tip, that happens quite often.
Usually they will only bite or chew at their tail if it is being constricted with retained shed or
a possible calcium issue.
The neosporin can help the tail tip or some raw unpasteurized honey to help moisturize the
scales, too.
