Ok it’s been over 24hrs and temp is only 87.3 are you sure I don’t have a faulty heater??? I even did the towel like you said. My house is 70 degrees inside so I k ow that’s not contributing

You might be loosing a lot of the heating pads output to your hardwood floors. I have mine on carpet which is much more insulating than a cold hardwood floor.

You could put a towel down, then the mat, then the bin. That would help. But either way, once your temp gets where it needs to be, the mat will hold it there.

If that's the case, I would use a piece of ½" rigid foam insulation (same footprint as dubia bin), then a layer of aluminum foil (shiny side up), then a towel for some dead air space, then the mats/pads, then the bin on top. That should take care of reflecting most of the heating pad output upward, rather than being absorbed by colder surfaces.

I agree you most likely need to insulate better. That is quite a large bin for so few dubias. You're heating up a lot of dead space. The more dubias there are, the more body heat they produce too.

What do you have your thermostat set to?

70 is still quite cool for a room. The closet I keep my dubias in is usually 75ish which helps a lot. Not to mention I have a lot more biomass with my colony (large number of dubia) which helps too.

I'd tape a towel around the outside of the bin, to help insulate better and lose less heat. If that doesnt work, you might want to get a smaller bin. Luckily they are cheap.

But it just comes down to insulation and heat loss.
