Okay, so for water crystals would these Fluker's Cricket Quenchers be the same? They're just like the crystals but don't need to be watered all the time cuz it's like jello. Also where would be the easiest place to find egg carton flats? I was thinking of asking local bakeries if they have any they are willing to sell or give away. Also what would I feed them? I'm thinking fruits and veggies but I also am wondering about what kind of corn meal I would need to give. I've heard people giving some sort of corn meal so I was just wondering what kind of meal i should get for them. Any help would be awesome!

Those Fluker quenchers are the same as the water crystals I believe. Only difference is those are already hydrated and then they have coloring added but they are fine and work just as well.

Wherever you order your dubias from, they might sell the crystals and even egg crates (roachguy does). I get mine however from Walmart when I buy the big packs of eggs (2 1/2 dozen or even larger). Then I just save them and use when needed. ANY egg crate will work for that matter along with TP rolls, papertowel rolls, etc.

I feed mine apples, carrots, collards, whatever my beardie eats, they eat and they get more oranges (oranges are roach viagra by the way :D )

You can grind up in blender some good dog food and someone mentioned a generic cereal (can't remember what it was though). Also fish flakes - I put those in there too - they like them!

They would have the same effect, however you would be paying way too much money for the cricket quenchers. I would buy them online, when you buy your roaches. for my roach food I like to mix dog food and cheerios. I like to avoid feeding corn meal though, so I buy natural dog food that has no fillers, just proteins and nutrients they need. you cannot find these at walmart, only at petstores. my personal favorite is blue buffalo. I also throw oranges in there because as the person before me stated, its roach viagra =)

carrots or oranges can be used instead of water gels or these cricket food things you talk about and also are alot cheaper.

i wouldn't use the cricket quencher because it has added calcium. not sure if it's true, but i remember reading somewhere that the roaches shouldn't have a ton of calcium.

i agree. That is a big problem ive had with the cricket quencher. Calciun is harmful to all feeders including crickets, and they actually dont retain much of te calcium. The majority of it is digested.

i just use a carrot for the water for the roaches they love carrots, no fooling around with water gel here

So carrots have enough water in them to keep the colony hydrated? Okay I have my colony now and I was wondering if sometimes some of them just die or am I doing something wrong already?

i have multiple carrots in there. The roaches eat them and I check every other day to make sure there is still some carrots in there. If there isn't i throw some more in. Are they small/medium ones that are dieing? Have you tried picking them up and seeing if its just their skin. When they shed it looks like a dead roach, because they shed there whole body including legs. Looks just like a alive roach except its just the shed

Yeah I've picked up some of them and they are really light, so I'm guessing it might be their shell but I found a freshly molted roach and it was back curled up and it didn't move when I nudged it.

It may be a humidity issue. The water crystals are used to hydrate the colony and to keep the humidity up. I think it need to be about 50%. They're really easy to deal with. I just put them in a platic bottle and refill when necessary. You can get a bag of them from a plant store around where you live. Just make sure that it doesn't have any pesticides in it.

people also insert a water bottle into the bin but has bin holes in the cover, this helps create some humidity.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
