Driftwood cleaning help please

Hi All,

My baby beardie has made quite the mess of her of drift wood pieces. She uses them as her potty and as her most favorite hangouts, go figure! Of course I pick up what I can as far as her droppings go as soon as I see them. But there's residue left over and I'm concerned about how sanitary it is. It's only been three weeks and they're a mess.

Any insight on how to safely clean them? Hopefully that's not too labor intensive as it looks like I may have to be doing this quite often! They're her favorite, so I'm willing to do what's necessary ;-) I know there's way easier to clean decor out there.

Yeah just scrub it and rinse it well and then pop it in the oven on low (around 250f or so) for 45 min to an hour and it will be nice and clean again.

Thank you Cooper Dragon! Would leaving them out in the hot So. Cal sun be okay? I'm not sure they'll fit in my mini oven. Kitchen construction ;-)

Probably not enough heat to kill bacteria but UV exposure is better than nothing. Give it a good rinse/scrub and let it sit out all afternoon.

i'm intrigued by the steam cleaner. That would be a great option.

I'm short, so reaching into a 60 gallon tall tank that sits on top of a buffet is somewhat challenging. How well does the steam cleaner attachments work? Can it extend a good bit?

You need to get the nozzle close to what you're cleaning for it to be effective. The steam pot is pretty small and portable and the hose reaches about 3ft.

I've never used the attachments, but it does include an extension hose that's about 3' long. It works great on everything, plastic, glass, wood, tiles, rocks....
