Hi, I just wanted some input about my beardie's stool. I don't know what happened, before he pooped very formed and "trunk" like feces, they looked very normal for me. Now his feces look like this, all messed up and lots of water.
Any thoughts?

Is this the first time the poo has looked like this? Or has it been going on for awhile?

What are the temps in your tank?

Whats the daily diet look like?

-It's been going on for a while. Actually since I started Reptaid. He is done with it now since the past Thursday. So I did 10 days on, 2 off, 10 on, and he has had this type of stool since first day on Reptaid.

What are the temps in your tank?

-Temps are, 100 - 108 on basking spot. 81 - 85 on cool side. He doesn't like so much the heat because every time the temp goes above 103ish he goes to the ground or the cool side.

Whats the daily diet look like?

-He eats dubia roaches everyday. Dusted in calcium 5/week and dusted in multivitamin 2/week. He eats 2 times per day, and I'm not sure the amount, but something like 10 or so medium size roaches. He also eats his vegetables everyday, a mix of mustard green and turnip greens or collard greens.

Why did you start him on reptaid?

Were you thinking he had parasites?

I would keep him off the reptaid for a week or two, to get it out of his system, then go have his fecal checked.

If his poo has always been runny its likely he has parasites.

Why did you start him on reptaid?

-I started him on reptaid because I thought he had parasites. Mostly because my wife told me she could smell the poop and I thought I might try it since it's all herbal and seems to help in a lot of aspects.

Were you thinking he had parasites?

-Yes that's why I gave him the reptaid.

I would keep him off the reptaid for a week or two, to get it out of his system, then go have his fecal checked.

-He already finished the reptaid last Thursday. I can't get a fecal done because I don't have the resources right now. That's also why I gave him reptaid, much cheaper than a vets visit.

If his poo has always been runny its likely he has parasites.

-It just started after the reptiad. Before was ok

I agree, that does not look normal at all. How old is your beardie? I know you said that if the temp goes higher than 103, he will not bask and will go to the cool side or ground instead. Sounds like the temps are too hot for him. If he's not basking, he's not gonna digest his feeders and there were a LOT of undigested feeders in his poop. If he prefers 100 degree temps instead and will bask longer, can't you use that as a basking temp? Any temp over 95 will actually be fine for an adult and will allow for proper hydration if he is basking long enough.

The urate looked very hard in that, looks like it formed a plug which can be from dehydration. Was the urate like that before starting the Reptaid? The reason I ask is that the Reptaid is very drying so good hydration is a must.

If at all possible, it would be a good idea to get a fecal checked to see if there are any parasites. That's what is recommended when using Reptaid, to follow up with a fecal to make sure it is clear.

Great Point! I totally forgot about that.

When I had Naughtica on Reptaid, I was having to give her daily 20 minute baths just to keep her body hydrated. If you are not doing that I would start. At least until the urate softens up.

A fecal is still the best thing you can get done IMO. You can call your vet and see how much it would cost to get one done if money is tight. You might even want to ask if they have payment plans available.

I totally agree with Brandon, that way you will know for sure if he does or doesn't have parasites. Either way, that poop is NOT normal looking and quite concerning. If your beardie is not feeling well from having parasites, they tend to not want to bask much, to just avoid the heat most of the time, but if the temps are also too hot than they like, they will avoid them even more which is not good. So, it's becomes a vicious circle.

Let us know how you make out. Has he had another poop that looked similar to that one?

My girl has had this kind of poop since we have had her..since October.her poop came back negative for parasites. I will lower the temp in her basking spot to increase her basking time. She just shed for the fourth time since we adopted her so she seems to be doing ok.

There are several breeders who will do fecal exams for a reasonable price. Depending on where you are, you can mail them off and have the exam done that way. Or, if you beg, you might be able to get a vet to do it without having to pay for the office visit. A fecal alone runs about $25, so its not bad. Med are also pretty affordable.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
