We're trying Reptaid for our guy after a couple of weeks (and two doctor's appts) of sickness. I read that there is alcohol in Reptaid and noticed increased lethargy after giving it to him - two days of treatment now. Does this sound normal?? He's not super lethargic as in can't move or anything, but definitely looks sleepy.

Ugh - we've been trying everything to get this guy better.

To help answer your questions, we need to know what your vet was treating your dragon for, and what drugs he was taking. Generally Reptaid will restore your dragon's energy and vitality quickly, not make them lethargic. So tell us more about what he has been through.

Thanks - I did a quick post because there is a LONG one from a couple of days ago, giving all the history of what's been going on, and I didn't want you all to suffer through that again.

Basically, our ten month old dragon has been very healthy since we got him in January, at least until three weeks ago. We take insanely good care of him. But he started making strange gagging/burping noises, stopped eating greens and has had an overall lack of energy and normal behavior. I thought initially he choked on a cricket I was feeding him. When his weird symptoms didn't stop I took him to the reptile vet, not once but twice. Both times they said he's super healthy, seems healthy. He didn't gag/choke/gape/burp once in their care. Brought him home, the behavior continued. They x-rayed him, said all looked normal except some weird "air bubbles" inside him, which they took as gas. She did a fecal test but gave him anti-parasite treatment before getting the results back, "just in case". They saw no signs of respiratory infection. He as had a dark tail tip and a darker beard at times, which I've heard are sign of unhappiness? pain?

So I have been communicating with the breeder, who is super nice and is trying to help me. She recommended I purchase Reptaid over the internet, thought it could help him. He seemed a little lethargic after I gave it to him (had to inject it into worms, he won't let me put anything in his mouth). So I wondered is maybe the alcohol has that effect. The breeder said anti-parasitic meds can be brutal on their systems. He's had soy yogurt for probiotics, but they didn't give him any at the vet, which is a bummer.

At this point, any ideas from anyone would be great. We really love this little guy. He's our only pet. We've been diligent about taking good care of him. HIs humidity levels are too high - I'm trying to fix that. And he is under a Powersun basking 100 bulb, which I've been reading can be problematic (?). Other than that, I'm at a loss and out of money! I can tell he is not well, even if it's not super bad yet, and want to help him before it's too late.

I just ordered Reptaid for my guy (should be here this afternoon) all the research I did on it says it increases energy, maybe there is an underlying problem? Im no vet or anything - just a suggestion.

It also depends on the animal I guess.... Maybe the doses are wrong?

Sorry I am no much help but maybe this could bump you up and someone with more experience could help you out.

Since he is under a light that is know to cause issues, I would switch it out for a heat bulb/florescent combo and see of it helps. I also think you might want to try and find a different vet, your guy has symptoms of a respiratory infection and at the very least he should have been put on Baytril.

Thanks!

So, I was wrong about the bulb - it is actually ok.

Was at the vet (for the 3rd time) today and picked up Baytril. They didn't want to treat him with antibiotics unless they thought respiratory infection was the problem. Two reptile vets still think it's some kind of gastrointestinal upset, which I don't understand. It's been over three weeks of problems and he's stopped eating completely. So I'm trying to force feed him with a syringe and starting the Baytril anyway.

My plan is to take him on Monday, if he's not better, to the breeder - she said she could try to rehabilitate him for me, which would be awesome because I've TRIED EVERYTHING. He was super healthy... it's really weird. Only thing we can do that we haven't done is a (very expensive) blood test. Even the vets are at a loss. : (

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
