Does anyone know the best method to prepare squash for beardies? Our three dragons really like squash, and I know it is good for them, but I have a difficult time with it. They seem to like it cooked best, but I don't know if this is as healthy for them as raw squash, and I find raw squash very difficult to peel and cut up. Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Laurie

I just cut it up to pieces thats smaller than the length between their eyes and that's it. They love it

I think the main problem is getting the skin off. Im not sure but I think cooking it makes it lose some of it nutrients. I am kinda in the same boat, I spent 1 hr peeling then grateing it.

This is what I found to work best: yellow squash (summer squash), butternut squash, and spagetti squash.
The summer squash is a breeze just peel and chop, but it doesnt seem to keep as long.
Butternut squash is really tuff but since it has not dips in it you can peel it with a good peeler.
Spagetti squash is easy too, all you have to do is cut it in half and use a fork to scrape it out.

Now if only there was a good way to prepare acorn squash........

I mainly use yellow squash. I never peel the skin off. Another easy way that I used to give it to them was to use a cheese grater and it works like a charm. No need to peel it

I use a potato peeler for butternut squash. I get the skin off first with it and then just keep peeling until the orange shows up with no skin. Then I chop it up into smaller pieces. :)

To prepare acorn squash I cut it in half, then cut it along every groove (long ways) so i have individual 'V' shaved strips. Then I peel that with a peeler cut them into squares and throw them in the grater.

My dragons really love Butternut squash. I peel it with a potato peeler, then shred with a cheese grater. Takes some work, but they LOVE IT!!!
