Hello all,

I've been a herper for many years but never tried to breed any feeders until now.
Here's my issue: bought approximately 150 discoid from a local breeder here about 3 months ago... I set up Temps in the mid 80s low 90s, egg flats, water crystals and home made roach chow.
I was advised that the roaches with the long wings are males, also denoted by the small last section of the abdomen and females are wider and have a larger last section of the abdomen... They're eating and molting fine, but it seems even the ones that looked like females are molting into males?

Maybe I read something wrong and have been sexing them wrong?

Any help?

Males and females have wings but the females are bigger I believe. They have wings once they reach adult stage. Have you started to see a new generation appear in the colony? I'd guess that a few months in you should start to see some soon.

I've now just learned how to properly sex discoids. I can't tell you how many times I've been told that the males are the only ones that have wings... For the love of Dog, my colony should work out now!

Thanks so much

That's true for dubias but not for discoids. Both genders of discoid have wings (I just learned that as well!) I hope your colony thrives =)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
