Digging in those nails!

Charlie has been the best BD in the world for 18 months :D

He is easy to handle and has never caused a problem. However in the last month or so, he has dug his nails in to the point that he can easily draw blood when handling him, altough he does not seem at all upset when being handled.

Do any BD's need their nails clipped? I was warned against that around a year ago, but a dealer near us has suggested we get it done.

So who is right?

I occasionally clip my beardies nails just be careful when doing it, they like to jerk their feet and don't cut too short or you will hit the quick!

I've heard that you can use baby nail clippers or even human nail clippers to clip them. Putting tile in the bottom of the viv will also help keep them short.

Tile is the best way to keep them short! If you do cut them yes you can use nail clippers but all you need to clip is the edge(sharp part of the nail)! Do not cut to far in as there is a vein there!

u can also buy quick stop its a powder most vets carry i use it for my dogs and rats stops the bleeding if you accidently get the blood line. also use a dremel tool with the lil round sander attachment it works great to sand down the pointy tips

After enduring some very painful scratches over the last couple of months, I cut our girls nails... about a month ago. It was a bit painstaking I must say. She was great (as usual) but I was so afraid of cutting below the quick. Thankfully, it went "ok." That said, the scratches were still coming, so a week later I went out bought some tiles for the viv that have a nice sandy texture. I wasn't sure if it would make much of a difference as she spends most of her time basking rather than walking about, but it really has helped! I haven't had a bad scratch in weeks. WHEW! Also, the tank looks excellent, and is so easy to keep neat and clean! Highly recommend. I'm just so glad it helped because I have no intention of ever cutting her nails again. Too stressful!

Charlie has had his nails cut :blob8: and everything is much less stressful now!

In the end I was so scared of hurting him with my massive hands that we took him to our vet, who is retired, he did a couple of nails and we did the rest, so learnt how to do it with his help, altough he did say it is not really necessary

If anyone needs a good vet in the Mid Devon, UK area, send us a personal message

Thanks for everyones help

Hey!! So i guess its the Charlies that scratch!! hehe my little guy is named Charlie as well, and well my tan is looking lovely with all the white marks from his scratches :( I live in NYC is there anyone that knows where I could take my Charlie to get his nails trimmed? Im going to try to get the reptile nail clipper and attempt to try to do it myself but i think Charlie will scratch me even more in the process... he doesn't even like his leash i've tried several time to put it on him and he runs for his life... is there a special file i can use? or a regular human nail file will do? should i use a metal one? any insights i will deeply appreciate!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
