Are you in a place where you could take him out for some sunshine? That often perks them up.
Good thinking having the baby food on hand. I'm afraid I don't know what the problem could be. Your husbandry sounds good. Hang in there and keep us posted on his progress, please. And thank you for your service to our country.

Hey everyone, calm down. This isn't the place for political discussions or finger-pointing. We are all entitled to our opinions. I'm not going to express my personal views on gun safety and regulation, but without a doubt if anyone is qualified to own a weapon, it sounds like OP is. And he is correct that there is nothing barbaric about using a gun to put him out of his misery if that is the only option left. As long as he is as good a shot as he claims to be, there will be no pain involved for the dragon. To me, it's more a question of whether I could bear to shoot a beloved dragon, but maybe if my dragon was suffering I would feel more inclined to do so. Either way, if OP's beardie cannot be nursed back to health, it is no more or less barbaric than any number of other options.

Opinions aside, attacking OP for trying to do what is kindest for his dragon isn't going to make him feel any better if that is the only option.

OP: Please know that we are not here to judge you, and that we are more than happy to support and help you as you attempt to get him back on his feet. :)

USNAVY, thanks for your service and protecting our 2nd amendment right. Hope your lizard gets better. Glad to see someone has sense unlike someone else on this page.

Hello,

Are you using the reptisun 10 tube or compact/coil light? Are you using a bright white basking light?
How often does he get calcium, could he be deficient in calcium, did they do a blood test?

Please keep on topic, as discussing gun rights & politics can be discussed in the Adult forum.

Thank you.

I fed him last night. Mixed up some baby squash and turkey and added some calcium and vit powder. He took it fine. He wouldnt move for me at all last night but this morning I found him in his hide with his head sticking out. The liquid was like a mucus brown color and I havent seen any since yesterday. I will be feeding him again shortly. If this works its going to be a long touchy process. Oh to answer the bulb question its one of the long ones. He has bright light basking spots, he is on or was on before brumation a 5-2 rotation of calcium and vits.

Oh and thanks to those who have given some much needed positive support. Some people are so naive and with all the gun talk lately I kinda blew a gasket with her uneducated comment, sorry for that.

When I took him out of his hide to feed him I found that he had pooped last night sometime. Hopefully thats a good thing.

Good to hear that he is eating. And we always rejoice for poopers on this forum. :D
Recovery is slow in reptiles. Keep up the good work! Please continue to keep us posted on his progress.

Hello,

That is good you are using the tube bulb then. Be sure to change out the light every 6 months or so.
It is possible that he has a little bit of an upset tummy from brumation. Maybe he had some food left in his system when he went down into brumation which can sometimes cause a lot of trouble for them.
You could also try adding some probiotics to help him out in case he has GI upset right now.
Be sure his basking is optimal but not too hot since he is an adult. It may take a little bit of time to recover & to improve when their system has been shut down. They are slow healers, too. Make sure he has a couple of hours to fully digest after feeding him before his lights are out so he can bask & digest properly.
Keep us posted on him!

Feel free to start a pro gun discussion in the Adult topic area.

So after a few days of feeding there has been a little change. He now moves every few hours or so to different spots in the cage. He takes his daily feedings pretty easily. Im also hydrating him daily. One odd thing is he will hold his head up cocked to one side with is eyes closed for hours at a time. Still hasnt pooped since that surprise one a few days ago but Im assuming since he didnt really have anything in his system from bruamtion it may take a few days for him to poop. I will keep you guys updated.

Thanks for the update. I've been thinking about him.
Perhaps we can be cautiously optimistic? Will continue to send positive thoughts and prayers your way.

okay so one no gun talk for a while. it sounds like he is getting a little bit of energy. if he is starting to get more energy try some fresh butternut squash. it is great for them. you can shred it or mush it but it will have more to it and fill his tummy better then just baby food. when you are bathing rub his tummy to try and help things move. and good luck. dragons may take a while to get better but they also take a lot to kill them. so have some hope.

Hello,

That is some good news for him. Do you happen to have any pictures of him, just so we can see his physical condition?
Try to encourage him to bask as much as possible to help with his metabolism.
How much is he keeping his eyes open though, are they bright or sunken in as much?
I hope he is getting better.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
