did you buy your beardy from petco? if yes please answer

hey i bought a bearded dragon from Petco a few months ago and I'm starting to wonder how big its going to get when its fully grown because I'm hoping he gets pretty big but my research is making it look like the biggest come from breeders but what do I know, how big are your guys's Petco dragons??

Oh and also! Do you think the amount of crickets and greens you feed them will effect there growth? I'm feeding mine right I'm just curious

Size depends on how much you feed it and genetics. http://www.beardeddragon.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=178186 This is a user on here who has a Petsmart beardie and she's the biggest one I've seen on here. My dragon is only around 5 months and she's already past 15 inches and she is also from Petsmart. If you feed them twice a day with plenty of crickets (I personally use dubia roaches, phoenix worms and superworms), your dragon should grow to a good size.

Their growth depends almost 100% of their diet, husbandry, and care. I bought Leyla from Petsmart and she's currently above 7 in. long.

Mine came from the Petco store I work at, and he is currently 6 1/2 months old and 19 inches long nose to tail tip. He is definitely bigger than most his age. I always feed him as much as he wants to eat and he has a great appetite. If you support them properly they will grow.

I got Nero from Petsmart on January 5,2012.He is now around 11 months old and 16 inches long,he was 5 inches when I got him.
In my opinion all beardies grow at different rates and reach only a certain size.At this point it doesn't seem that Nero will grow much bigger,but you never know.He could have a huge growth spurt next year for all I know .

Agreed that no matter where they come from, proper diet, proper UVB, proper supplements and proper heat is what will depend on how big your beardie will grow.. it also has to do with about 50% genetics too!

Use a big enough tank, care for them well, and they can get up to 18 inches long, plus tail.

According to AHBD in another thread, size of the tank doesn't matter for growth, so I guess it's more of a comfort and exercise thing. I've heard that 40 gallons is the minimum for a fully grown beardie, and on the other end there's no such thing as too much tank. If you let him run around outside the tank (supervised of course) then 40 gallons will be fine once he gets a foot long. Otherwise, I'd just get the biggest I could afford and have room for.

Just to clarify, it was mentioned in another thread that a dragon was stunted [ 8 inches long ] because it was in a 20 gal. tank. I commented that the tank size doesn't stunt them, [ that's a myth] but it's lack of a proper diet and sometimes genetics [ often combined] that stunt the growth, not from being in a 20 gal. tank. But yes, the 40 gal. tank is generally fine, especially if the dragon comes out regularly for exploration + exercise.
