Way to go Dexter, wow what a fighter you have. I'm so happy for you, it's just a beautiful thing when you can rescue a beardie and help him reclaim his life. Wonderful that he's doing so well, too bad about the meds, but they're doing the job making him better. I just wish all beardies got the same care so never had to go through such abuse. I wish you could get to the previous owner & beat the crap out of them, too :angry5: Lovely thought, that

We all wish Dexter many more good days than bad days and a great recovery...just the fact that he can get around is amazing. You are truly performing a miracle with your care.

I sat here on my lunchbreak and read ALL 9 PAGES.............I was shocked at all the things you and your husband has done for this little guy. The love the effort the dedication as well as your hard earned money for doctors visits needs to be applauded. Its people like you that we need in this world its people like you that are the voice of these reptiles. I want to thank you for what you have done for him

Thank you all for your best wishes. As to the cyst, they do not dissolve unfortunately. I have had a cyst before and you either have to deal with the discomfort or have it removed. I do have some new pictures of Dexter just have not had time to get them on the computer let alone on here. :( I will try this weekend though to get some on here. :) Thank you again all.

Sorry for not having made a post since may, its been busy around here. Lots of overtime on ken and a lot of trips to the vet, ect. Ok, Dexter's status; he is just as he was before. Not much better, the cyst or protrusion on the side of his face had started to slowly get worse, in his case bigger. I finally chewed the vet out to do something about it. He had taken all his antibiotics and then some. We had waited like he said to. Well, I ended up making an emergency run to the vet because we noticed that it was starting to get so big that it was pulling some of his skin/scale away from his mouth. It looked excruciatingly painful. I was fed up, the very next morning I rushed him to the vet. He took and stuck it with a syringe and pulled out what looked like this orange/whiteish/redish pussy stuff. I was shocked. He said from what I could understand that it was some sort of infection. So we left Dexter at the vet, because he wanted to lance it and clean it out all the way and put some medacine in there. :( And 2 more types of antibiotics. He also wanted me to pull open his cut on his face and squirt meds in there every day?! Then pry his mouth open and force him meds again every day.

I tried to talk to him about Dexters quality of life. He couldn't give me a straight answer. He said that Dexter looks better than the other bearded dragons that he see's. So he will be fine. I was PISSED! I'm sorry but when you see nothing but dragons in the shape or worse shape than dexter how do you even know what a healthy one looks like anymore? I don't think he does. We are just worried that we are doing nothing but making his suffering last longer and longer and longer. I know our intentions are good. I know they are, and money is not of concern. He is a family member to us.

BUT, we were talking earlier today. We feel that even though both of our other babies (Meathead, and Cory) are in perfect health, we do not have enough experience to care for Dexter any longer. We need someone whom has more experience than us to care for him. We know a lot of you on here have 10 + years experience on us. So, we are going to put him up for adoption. It's not that we don't love him or have the money to take care of him. We do, its just getting very emotionally stressful caring for him. I myself do not know what else to do. I am going to post an ad in the for free section explaining all the details.

I just want everyone to know that we love Dexter with all our hearts, both Ken and I have cried taking him to the vet. He has been through 8 different doses of medications now and I don't believe that our vet is the best vet for him, nor us the best parents for him either. We are no where near experienced as some of the amazing people on this website.

Thank You,

Erika & Ken

Erika and Ken, I'm so sorry to hear that Dexter still isn't better, and that the vet hasn't done anything to help him other than feed him more meds.
I could only imagine how sad both of you are in making the decision to give him up for adoption. For what it's worth, you had already done so much in giving him much needed medical attention and love. If it wasn't for you guys taking him in, he probably wouldn't be here now.

I wish you both the best of luck in finding someone to adopt Dexter, and maybe still be able to keep in touch and get updates on his progress.

Hello everyone, we just went and picked up Dexter today. We have other beardies as well, including two other rescues. We will be keeping everyone up to date as best we can, so keep an eye out for Dexter updates. We will be taking him to our vet soon, and will be continuing the awesome work Erika and Ken were doing. I'm sure we'll have new pics soon too, thanks to everyone for all the support on here. I usually don't post a whole lot, but I will try to get updates out, I know Dexter has many supporters.

Kristi and Jason - Thank you so much for opening your home to Dexter. I can't wait to watch him grow up with you.

Erika and Ken - Your little miracle is now in good hands. Though he wasn't with you for long, I'm sure he'll never forget the sacrifice you both made to take care of him.

Erika here,

we got a pm from Kristi and Jason and they said that Dexter is doing good. He is eating well still, no relocation stress thank goodness and he tried dubias for the first time and likes them. :) When replying to them I yet again thanked them for helping us and Dexter with their knowledge with rescues. We do miss him. But he is in another good home with a new mommy and daddy that will love him as much as we do. :)

Hello everyone. We took Dexter to our vet this morning, just wanted to get a fresh look after all the back and forth the old vet had apparently done. Dr. Smith says that the antibiotic he's currently on is good, and to continue for at least a month. She definitely saw no need to reopen his wound from the cyst, especially to put eye cream in! She cleaned his mouth again, and thinks that should get all the mouth rot. She said that where the cyst was is healing well and with the antibiotic hopefully no more of those. She didn't do xrays either, but seemed hopeful with his outlook. She said to see how he does with what he's on, and if he starts twitching or anything bring him in asap. As for his back she thinks it might just be because of mbd, and the calcium deprivation. I think that was the bulk of what we heard today. We will let everyone know how he continues to get along. Oh and one of his new faves is hibiscus, we're going to need 12 bushes of it!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
