Dewey's Thread: Updated: 9/6/12 He's Very Sick

I received Dewey on 1/13/10. After having him for a couple of days I officially decided to name him Dewey. Since he now has a name I thought I should make a thread dedicated to him so I can share our journey and his growth with all of you. :)

Being my first beardie, Dewey will always have a very special place in my heart. He's been a pure joy to have so far. Especially now that he's starting to come out of his shell little by little every day. I'm truly excited to see how he will develop in the months to come.

So, enough babble... here are the first set of pictures which I took tonight.

Hanging out on his vine. I wasn't expecting Dewey to be as small as he is. Yesterday was the first time he was seen up on his vine and he was up there again today. He seems to be a pro with navigating it!

Here's Dewey all wrapped up just before bed time. :)

I have just read through every single page of this thread, and I must say, I love Dewey.

It was amazing seeing him grow from baby into the handsome beardie man he is now.
I love him

Sara, I'm sure baby Lyla is keeping you on your toes! I would really love to get a new baby myself, but right now the timing just isn't right. Hopefully in the near future I'll have the chance for a new one. I just worry about it taking away from Dewey's tme.

Renee, I completely understand your not having much free time so no worries! Thanks for your nice words. I also think Dewey's turned into quite the looker! :)

BeardyDragon (sorry, don't know your real name), yes Dewey has always had that black beard. When he was a little guy I worried that I was doing something wrong, but it turns out it his coloring. I really love the beardies with the creamy white underside, but his black beard grew on me too! :)

Brandon, Thanks! I love him to! His personality is just as good his looks! He's such a sweet tempered boy. :)

Yeah, I kind of decided there isn't going to be a "right time" for me to get a new baby (just finished school, job searching, getting married, then there will be kids) so I just dove in. I love having her and so far I don't think she's cut much into Lilly's time, of course Lilly thinks it's brumation season and is refusing to come out of her hides unless I bribe her with worms.

This thread has been a wonderful way to chill before I go to work. Dewey is so handsome! With quite the personality to boot! I must say my faovurite pictures are the ones on his blanket. I could NEVER get tired of looking at dragons on their blankets - SO cute.

And as for the aforementioned quote, I'm with ya. It's almost too easy, LOL - Tiki would do ANYTHING for a worm. I'm waiting for the day she gets the worm and then turns around at the speed of light to go back into her hide - then mocks me.

Lol Lilly has already tried that (taking a worm and heading back in her hide, pretty sure my jack russel taught her that, although she does the opposite, takes a treat and runs OUT of wherever I was trying to put her). She's a silly dragon (Lilly, not the jack russel) and missed the fact that brumation is supposed to mean you don't eat.

Hi Mandy!!!! I could never miss out on Dewey pics, I LOVE him!!! I've had my hands pretty full too but now I dont' have nearly as many babies as before so I'm slowly catching up! It's funny because I'm really seeing alot of similarities between Dewey and Envy in your last batch of pics! I have a pic of Envy on FB (in my Wall album) that shows her whole back, take a look and tell me what you think! Is Dewey starting to slow down at all for winter yet??

I'm way past due in posting new pics of Dewey so here are some from last night through today. :)

Lazy day yesterday. I came home from lunch and found Dewey happily lounging on the cool side of his viv.

After I snapped off a few pics and said hello to him, he decided to get up and move around a bit.

I'm still pretty amazed at how much Dewey has changed since I brought him home in January 2010. Here are a couple of shots for comparison.

Here he is on 1/16/10...

Haley, yes! Dewey's are completely black! I was asked somewhere in this thread to post a close up of his eyes so there is one in here somewhere. :)

Micheal, I'm planning on taking more pics of him tonight when he comes out again. I'll try to get a new measurement and weight on him when he tuckers himself out a bit (he's more co-operative when he's tired!).

I was in the mood for photography today apparently! Here are more pics of Dewey taken today. :)

Looking pretty tired...

He's between 20.5 - 21" long. At almost 2 years old (wow, has the time been going by THAT fast?!) I'd say he's done growing.
091711f.jpg

Hard to see, but that is a 6! He weighed in at 612g.

Cuddle time with mommy.

Huh, back in his viv and he decided he wanted to sleep under his half log. He NEVER goes there! Weird!

Definitely a big boy, loved seeing more pictures.
You may want a larger surface for the weighing though. Having his tail hanging off can tell lighter weights. I use a piece of cardboard that is about 22 inches long and just wide enough for the dragon(s), zero it out with the cardboard atop VIOLA
He is such a looker, can't get over his eyes
Silver beard

Was he once a pirate! JK
I know it is light reflection 8)

Yeah, I know what you're saying about the scale. I'm actually shopping around for a larger scale. I've been to cheap to buy one, but it'll definitely get it's use so why not. I just have to find a good deal for one. :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
