ok so I found this video on youtube about this docotor who does surgery on a bearded dragon and he says he is spaying her. Can you really spayed a bearded dragon? Is it like with dogs and cats? Also I know he doesn't know what he is talking about because in one of the comments he says dragons can breathe on their backs and i replied saying they couldn't because they don't have diaphrams. anyway watch the video and see for yourself what this doctor is doing and tell me what you think.

********************Warning Video is Kinda of disturbing because he does show you cutting open a dragon I skipped through parts of the surgery so I don't know how gruesome it is sorry I have a weak stomach**********************

Based on what he's said, he "spayed" her because of pre-existing medical issues with her cloaca collapsing. This is not something I think is done on a regular basis like with cats and dogs. Or at least, I wouldn't do it unless the act of egg creation caused an abnormal amount of pain or posed significant danger to my beardie.

I think it is totally different from spaying normal pets. At least he is doing it to help females that are egg bound.

He's one of the top reptile vets in the state of Victoria, so I think he knows what he's talking about. His argument for de-sexing female beardies is that even ones that don't breed can develop infertile eggs and become egg-bound, which can quickly turn fatal. It is major surgery so we haven't had it done with our little female but I understand the problem.

If you find "The Reptile Doctor" on Facebook you can see some of his case presentations. He does show surgery, though, so if you're squeamish it may not be a good idea. He recently showed his removing the entire tail of an adult male beardie who had a recurrent melanoma. We know the lizard in question so we hope he's doing OK.

My doctor wouldn't spay my beardie Sweetie, even though she was getting run down from laying constant infertile eggs. She said it was a very difficult surgery and could kill her. So I'm glad there's a vet who was able to do this, but how did the dragon fare after the surgery was done?

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
