Dalia's wonderful adventures!!!

Hello everyone! I decided to start a thread for Dalia because I have grown to love her so much and I want to share her adventures with the world!

Here's a "brief" story as to how Dalia and I found each other,

I was at the pet store buying supplies for my hermit crabs and I got in line at the register. I saw at another register a woman and her son were standing with a box and 10 gallon tank with a bearded dragon in it. (The dragon was too large for that tank mind you and I noticed there was a problem) I curiously asked the cashier what was going on with the beardie and she quickly replied with, "Want it?" I was shocked at the response and got really excited. It's always been a dream of mine to get a lizard, especially a bearded dragon. I've done some research and started to acquire the materials needed for keeping a dragon because getting it all at one time would cost a whole lot. (funny part is because I took this beardie in i ended up spending money anyways) So I continued to ask the cashier how much the dragon would be. She replied with "Free. This woman wants to leave the lizard here and we can't take it. Poor thing is in too small of a tank." I then went on to look at the bearded dragon and ask the woman why she was giving it up. Her reply almost made me face palm...now i understood why the cashier seemed so mad. Her excuse was, "I'm going on vacation and couldn't find someone to take care of it." But she also told the cashier that she was moving, so who knows the true reason.

Anywho, I had one of the associates who has lizards make sure the dragon was healthy and everything before I left. Got her home and into a larger 30 gallon tank and she was content. I didn't hold her for a couple of days to let her get used to the new surroundings. I decided to name my new baby Dalia, which is Lithuanian for Fate because it was fate that I was able to rescue her.

It's been over a month now and she and I get along great :] Although I would have loved to have that bond that beardie parents get with their babies when they raise them from a young age, I think Dalia and I have worked out our own love.

Every morning when her lights come on at 8, she will bask for a little bit, always waking me up with her claws scraping against the cave and tile. Once she is warm and awake, she then will begin the daily routine of making me feel bad. lol She will glass surf and bump her nose on the sides of her tank and wait for me to take her out. Unfortunately some days I can't take her out because I work or I have school. Although these past few days she's been spoiled because I've let her stay out pretty much all day. (Don't worry folks I have a heat lamp set up in her windowsill platform. pics to come) She also went out for her first adventure outside, I didn't get any pics though because it was so short of an excursion >_< I shall take a ton of photos next time!

I am thinking about building a new larger enclosure for my pretty girl, but my parents aren't too keen on me putting anymore tanks or things of that nature in my room. I know she needs something larger than 30 gallons and my thought of building my own enclosure would help with the spacial issue in my small room, since it would sit on my dresser which is a little over 4 feet long. My new problem with that would be moving the hermit crab tank which is next to Dalia's tank right now. I put the crabs in Dalia's old 10 gallon, so finding a space for that will be a challenge. (My Dad says my room is a zoo atm)

When I move out, which according to my parents won't be until I graduate from college, I plan on setting aside a large area for my pets. The unfortunate side of that story is I won't be graduating from college for at least another 2 years because of other reasons...

WOW sorry that I wrote a novel up there guys... :silent: BUT here's some wonderful Dalia Photos!

Windowsill platform setup: (Don't worry I'm never too far from her when she's out)

So pretty!

Those are carrots that she refused to acknowledge in the background...

WHAT IS THIS MAGIC THING?

Stay away from mah cave of wonders!

The first picture I took of Dalia and it's my favorite so far, its like the meme "I don't always look awesome...oh wait yes I do!"

Picture Update!

She LOVES her new tank and has even started to climb around and chase her crickets :D

Pretty face :]

Her beard is so soft now that is has completely shed

I built a permanent shelf for her viewing pleasures :] Makes both Dalia and I very happy!

LOVE THIS GIRL SO MUCH!!!!!! <3

Omgshhh so pretty! What annoys me is that so many people think all bearded dragons look the same. No they don't! They all have their own appearance. Dalia is so fortunate to have you. I can see the love you both share.

So the other day I was cleaning out the cricket container and I put probably about 70 or so crickets, you see I had bought 60 a couple of days before this, into the smaller container while I cleaned out the large container.

Well me being a complete ***** I thought, "Hey the lid on the small container has slats on it, all the poop and debris that came with the crickets should just fall out while keeping the crickets safe inside if I tip it over."....well when I turned the container upside down...the lid popped off and ALL THE CRICKETS SPILLED OUT ON THE GROUND.. :banghead: :angry5: ..I was outside because I was afraid of crickets getting loose in the house. I swore up a storm and went to trying to hunt down all the crickets I had let loose into the wilderness. My Dad and I probably looked like fools trying to pick up tiny little crickets and put them in containers. Luckily I was able to get most of them back, since they didn't get too far, but I probably still lost quite a few. :banghead:

Now I know to NOT try and flip said container over to get the poops out. (Common sense wasn't working for me that day and I paid for it with crickets, who now chirp outside my window as a reminder of my epic fail) :banghead:

In other news, I took Dalia outside yesterday and she did something that had me laughing and telling her she was kinda a fail. So we have a patio in my backyard, and for some reason Dalia has a dangerous fascination with rocks. She will try to eat smaller looking ones for some reason. So I took her away from those rocks and put her back on the patio, well you know how patio blocks have smaller rocks mixed in with the red sand? She saw a piece of white rock in the patio tile and tried to eat it. First she licked the ground, then she tried to bite it. When that didn't work Dalia tried to dig at the tile to get the white rock up. I laughed for a moment then moved her since I didn't want her to stress out over something she couldn't (and shouldn't) have. She ate a rolly polly, which I hope won't hurt her, and later a flying ant along with the occasional weed leaf. I enjoy taking Dalia outside and I think she enjoys it too :]

So this past weekend I went up north to my parent's cottage. I decided to take Dalia with me since I didn't want her just sulking in her cave all weekend, plus I would have worried about her constantly since she would have been alone.

ANYWHO...here's some pics of her adventure up north :D

She loved being out in the sun :] Her wonderful colors were coming out.

She loves to pose like that for photos lol

Kinda shows her size and colors really well :]

"Where'd she go?" She didn't like being on the ground. She preferred her wooden throne.

Since I didn't have a tote big enough I brought up her old 30 gallon glass tank as her temporary home for the trip. Naturally she glass surfed a lot since she does not like the small space. So I brought out her cave and put her on the bed night stand during the day for a little bit. She really liked that, even tried burrowing into the wood xD

Pretty gurl :3

I forgot to mention that when we went up north Thursday night she was in her little travel container with one of my shirts. She slept most of the way up so there wasn't any issues with her having to share my lap with my dog. Well when we were going home Monday afternoon it was during the day and she didn't want to be cooped up in her travel tank. So my pup had to deal with sharing part of my lap with Dalia cuz she loved being a copilot <3

I have some older pics that I totally forgot to upload before but I'll post those later :] there are some cute ones.

It looks like she had a great time! I'm thinking of taking mine up north, to Grand Marais, in a couple of weeks too. He loves going outside and riding in the car but this will be his first major adventure. He also tries to eat rocks when at the park--I wonder why they do that!

Thanks everyone :] Dalia did love it up north. She didn't like the small temp housing but LOVED it outside.

Here's some older pics I forgot to upload.

She gets this odd look sometimes when she's looking outside. It's kinda like "Bruh..."

Dat leg tho...

Double sexy legs!!!! (She did not like the fact her cave suddenly disappeared...)

This was one afternoon when we both decided to spend time in the sun :]

She randomly wanted to get off my lap and go hide by the wood boarder around our fire pit area. It was really strange :?

But then she perked back up and started exploring :D

I love this look she's giving me xD

She really loves being on my shoulder :]

Yesterday we sat out in the sun again, I didn't take any photos, but she just chilled out on my shoulder while we both got a little sun.

Hello everyone!

Boy has it been a while since I last posted on here...
Some personal stuff came up and I was in the hospital for a bit. Luckily though I'm working through it and keeping this positive in my life. Christmas was a lot of fun since I was a new pet parent to Dalia. I even got a baby's first christmas ornament and put my favorite picture of Dalia in it. My parents and boyfriend thought I was a dork for doing it, but she's my little baby girl :]

In March my boyfriend and I moved in together and we're happily living in an apartment with my dog and Dalia. She loves the freedom of being able to roam the entire living space. She no longer is just content with sitting in front of the window, she now just feels the need to scurry around everywhere and find the most random places to nap. It's a fun game now that if I don't hear her running around we play "where's Dalia sleeping now". She has her favorite places, the bedroom closet, next to my dresser, and one of the bookcases in the living room. (Do keep in mind though I do check on her frequently when she's running around, there's not many places she can go in the apartment since it's not too big.)

I celebrated one year of rescuing Dalia back in February and I can't imagine my life without her. She's another ray of sunshine in my life and I'm glad fate brought us together.

I have a ton of pictures to share with you guys. I'm just waiting on them to upload to photobucket and I'll post them in a bit! :D

Okie dokes, I've finally got the pictures up on Photobucket so I can post them now :D

Here's a couple of Christmas photos:

This was actually Christmas morning xD She's like, "Why are you awake?"

Double sexy leg!

I love this one too. Looks like she's praying before bed :]

She loved the heater :]

Fell asleep on me after a bath :]

My boyfriend texted me this one day while I was at work. She loves to climb onto our backs.

Regal Dalia is a pretty Princess

This was when we finally got the apartment situated and I let her run around. She found one of the bookshelves and "conquered" it :]

Here she is helping me with laundry one day

She for some reason likes going into the bathroom xD The dog bed is for my dog who likes to be in the bathroom while I shower lol He's kinda a creep.

In the late afternoon/evening, when she's running around she enjoys finding random places to sleep.
Here she is in the bedroom closet.

Here she found a chair cover and got comfy in it lol

This closeup is one of my new favorties!

Beardie selfie!

Her new view at the apartment

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
