Well If i would have went the cheaper route...
White melamine instead of black
Single light fixture instead of double
Spray paint
and the extra wood for the tracks - because they cut the wood the wrong dimensions, if they had not - i would have had enough wood left over from the 4x8 sheet to make the tracks - instead i had to go buy another sheet of 2x4 MDF wood...

so total SO FAR is just under two hundred. I still need to buy the trim for the front, which will be another 10 bucks or so... so all together it will be about two hundred and fifteen - two hundred and twenty five bucks...

but again i could have done it for about one fifty had i went the cheaper route. read the very first post on this thread and you will see detailed lists of what i bought and costs and what not...

im fixing to actually start building my second enclosure here with in a few weeks and also my stand to put them both on...

Looks great, I just finished mine too, Different design totally, cost a lot more, but thats with to many mess-ups to count.

Anyway, I ended up using the same tracks (6ft version), they work great, thanks for the tip.

well i have decided to go with Tempered Glass for the dorrs, the plastic is okay, but it scratches very easily, just from opening it and closing it - the plastic scratches very easy - i am gonna call around tomorrow and see if i can get a few sheets/peices of tempered glass...i'll keep ya'll posted...

hi all.
you American's make it look hard work.
all it is ,is a square box with runners and glass in, but you lot seem to use plexiglas, over here that is called perspex, which scratches for fun.
cutting list for a 1 metre long viv x 510 high x 500 deep.
2 at 1000mm x 500mm
2 at 500mm x 510mm
1 at 970mm x 510mm
2 at 970mm x 80mm
plus your tracking and glass.
you can screw it or mod block it together.
not rocket science is it.
all the best steve.

LMAO - WOW! Thanks For that "English Wisdom" there Stevo... No ons said it was rocket science. I built two of them and a stand (which is what this whole thread is about)

Try reading ... No - No ACTUALLY "READING" the first post. It IS a step by step for us Americans who are not very handy...supposed to help people out who want to tackle the project them selves...

And i didnt use Plexiglas, or any thing plastic - I used Tempered Glass. Which is actually the best way to go - but thanks for your input ...

I can't seem to find where to order blk melamine.....
Searched High and low, a little help please...

Thanks

Yeah it was tough to find, Try looking in your yellow pages for companies who do Laminate and or wood distribution. I found mine through a large distribution Company listed in the very first post - They might be nation wide and might have an office by you (if you are actually in the states) But look under Laminate or high pressure woods. Good luck

i am getting ready to build on pretty much just like this but i am going to use cabinet grade plywood.

i have just been curiious about something.

what does one of these vivs weight.
seems like 1 4x8 sheet of plywood is heavy and you need almost 2 sheets

Well first of all - just to clear this up first - one 4X2X2 VIV only needs one sheet of melamine that equals 4X8 ft.

The wieght was something i was concerned about during the first VIVs constuction - When I bought the first 4X8 sheet of MDF melamine - i asked them what it weighed and she told me 97 pounds. The second VIV i built i didnt use MDF - I used particle board melamine and that weighed 86 pounds - so stacked up on one another like i have mine (view pictures on first post) weighs about 183 pounds Plus the tempered glass weight and the lights and every thing - your looking at about 100 pounds a peice.

That is why i built a stand on wheels out of 4"x4" wood - it will hold nicley and once complete - will look very nice as well.

anyone considered using luber core plywood? You could try to sand and paint the outside of the enclosure and it would be lighter and would probably last longer

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
