I got a lot of ideas here over the last 6 months or so - absorbing plans for a crossfire of my Dagobah's all his own.
Finished yesterday - enjoyed it lots but so glad to be done, devoting at least 6 hours a weekend to errands and building.
Took about 1 month to finish I guess. Something like that, possibly longer.
Dimensions are 4'x2'x32''. The additional height from the standard plans are compensation for a 25lb 8'' rock that Dagobah adores.
Pretty much done. Want to work on an old bike - fix that up for the next month or so. Then I'd like to incorporate some modge on a design for a shelf on the left side. After that, upgrade to an arcadia since his current UV is probably a bit too high at 12'' from the basking rock. Oh and probably make a modge hiding nook, inside which he can get comfortable.
I have a 40 watt bulb in the middle, and two 50 watt bulbs towards the right grouped together. The cage is quite worm actually even though it's maybe 55 degrees outside right now. Surprised how much heat is retained even with as many vents as I have and given the height this version is.
Used porcelain 24'' by 12'' tiles. Caulked a bit on the edges even though everything was snug. What else. Oh used 6 coats of water based polycrylic on any inside surface that he might pee or poop on. All other surfaces (including outside) just got two coats. 2 coats of Miniwax stain Sedona Red before the poly was applied.
Oh used 3/4 inch Birch which I am very glad to have used - not having much carpentry skills I can guarantee I would have split the wood on several occasions if I had used oak. Not one split thankfully. Birch was very forgiving and gave nicely to slight mistakes made along the way.
Worked out nicely.
If anyone has any questions I'm always around on the site.
Thanks again for everyone's great ideas and of course pictures.
