Crickets with wings..?

Hi, so I ran out of crickets and had to get some emergency ones from a local pet store. Well, I told them how big my beardie was (about 8") and the crickets they gave me are kinda big...and I didn't find out until I got home because they put them in a paper bag with egg cartons and it was stapled shut.

So I've just been trying to get the smallest ones out to feed my beardie...I'm scared of him getting impacted

But on to my question...a few of the crickets (the larger ones that I will not feed my beardie...I was planning on saving the large ones and seeing if I could get them to lay eggs) have wings. Are they able to fly out when I open the container?? I guess what I mean is can they like...actually FLY or can they just fly short distances?

They don't fly. That is how they make noise. I don't know how to make them breed and lay eggs, I had a bunch of older crickets because my BD did not eat them from the bulk 1000 and they just died after a couple weeks. Good luck trying to get them to lay eggs. If they do please let us know. If you feed them it is fine, no risk of impaction.

You're doing the right thing keeping the larger crickets away from your beardie. I've seen some small adult crix, but usually they're pretty big. Use the "space between the eyes" rule unless the feeder is soft-bodied like silkworms or hornworms.

Next time you buy crix, tell them the maximum size (length) cricket you need. They may have thought you had an 8" snout-to-vent beardie which could definitely take adult crix. I don't remember what size cricket would be best for your baby... it's been a while since Invictus was ittle! Maybe 3/8"? 1/2"? Just guessing... Someone else?

Funny, I had to do the same thing yesterday and got 100 from Petco since mine isnt taking the phoenix worms. The damn things are way to big and I have to see if the will take them back or find a place to let them all go now! To add insult they kept me up all dang night!
